Episode 297 Discussion: 13th June 2013

1. Do not litter the thread with chit-chat conversations. A little is permitted to have the friendly atmosphere, but when you feel like chatting more, it is desired you take your conversation with your buddies to alternate venues like chat clubs, pm mode etc.
2. Quoting Policy: It is desired that people refrain from single, double, triple and multiple quoting of posts on a repetitive basis. They can pick out the parts that they like to quote as opposed to quoting the entire post. It is often seen that we have to scroll through the pages when all they have done is quoting and more quoting with one line response to the actual post. IF has a rule that more than three times quoting is not allowed. But nowadays as people read IF posts over phone, it is preferred that people do not quote longer posts and just extract the portions of the post that they like to respond to and if they still find it relevant to their thought process then get the entire quoted text.
3. Regulate the font size. Keep remembering that. It is really not pleasing to see big bolded letters for no special reason.
4. The thread becomes a mess when you give your review and do not REST for sometime until others have posted. Please understand, respites or reviews; once or twice are good for few pages...don't make a regular chat thread with your reiterating/whining/complaining on the same point. For the online readers, the thread becomes unpleasant read. There is a separate Complaints thread in Main Forum.
5. When episodic content is emotional, take a deep breath, give a good lengthy review; that acts as your vent in one single post...and make an exit to calm down your nerves if you still are possessed by only what you've seen.

• MEIEJ continues upward trend. TRPs were 2.9, and the show now shares #4 position with QH. It is now the top Colors show
• Colors is #2 among channels - GRPs were 198. Starplus at #1 position, and Zee at #3.

TRPs:

MB continues its upward trend, in sync with week 2 of the joyous wedding with a twist! TRPs increased from 2.6 to 2.9 the previous week. The show now shares the #4 position with QH. Happy happy. (Note: there are two #3s - Pyaar Dard and Taarak.)

Note: does not take into consideration impact of adding new markets at various points. Size of these markets, viewing patterns, demographics, and level of digitization etc. of those markets would impact TRPs. Also, hard to judge IPL's exact impact.

Clearly, the wedding has had the desired positive impact on TRPs. Although we don't have the daily TRPs as of now, I would imagine that regardless of Saturday's puzzling strategy of sizeable airtime to the Sultan related story, other than the usual Saturday dip, that episode might only show a small impact of potential viewer discontent - after all, how many fans were going to risk shutting off the TV, for fear of missing parts of the Rishbala wedding? Oh, the joys of a captive audience! (Of course, I may be proved wrong here.)

It's going to be very interesting to follow the TRPs trends over the next few weeks. Hopefully, they will indicate that the bump is being sustained, and viewers have been re-energized by the strategy adopted by the show: continuing the positive trend of the wedding; new entries; and the new track.

And then finally, a comparison to other top 10 shows. Many of the top shows' TRPs decreased compared to the week. MB went up significantly compared to the previous week. Interestingly, looking at the top 2-7 shows, there were only small differences in the TRPs of those shows. Which indicates that MB may or may not be able to hold on to its #4 position next week.

The two charts below show: 1) Top 10 shows TRPs (MB is yellow) and 2) TRP increase/drop for those shows, compared to the week prior. The blue bars on the second chart are the ones that did better, the red are the ones that did worse, and the no bars are the ones that were the same.

PS: all my usual caveats apply - this is a rough analysis etc. etc. Feel free to weigh in and point out the holes (I freely admit there's probably some!)

• Sweet moments at the wedding venue, which I found visually appealing. RK telling Madhu the gift he was going to give her. Nicely shown - how when they're leaning in for the kiss, the decorative panels were being moved. Resulting in Radhaji and Bittuji interrupting them. Radhaji and Bittuji must be wondering, are we going to be treated to this continuously? Loved the body language - the way RK wove his arms around Madhu as they were walking. Totally what you would imagine a couple in love doing on their wedding day.
• Finally! A good traditional gruhapravesh. Beautiful. Loved all those scenes, without the shadow of whatever happened in the past. Clearly meaningful for both RK and Madhu .
• Of course, with Dips getting all snarky. So RK knows that Dips was likely the cause of Sultan coming in earlier. He's all ready to kick Sikky-Dips out. Sikky appealing to Madhu.
