Alovi, i agree that it's also so Sultan can hear it straight from them that Madhu didn't know, though I think he may have kind of realized it was RK's doing. Even more so, he hears straight from Madhu that she would've never agreed to it had she known.

But I also think it's to give him and us a glimpse of how unequal this relationship is, and the ending lines that said it all.

Again I ask. Why did RK put the blame on her words? He said when people are upset, they say things they don't mean...and put it on her. That she said things she didn't mean this time. No apologies or acknowledgement of his words either before he left, or to Bittuji to her over the phone.
