Chapter 96
On their way back to The venetian Madhu received a call from the counselor general Mr prashant Kumar, she agreed to whatever he said and disconnected.

"so what next Biwi"

"4:30 PM today with joint secretary international affairs also joining from India"

RK noded and took a sharp turn to enter into the parking lot. He parked the car and told Madhu to go ahead to theirr room he would join her in a little while. While going to their room Madhu felt as if someone was watching her. She kept a straight face and kept walking towards her suit. Once in she was literally taken aback by what awaited for her.

Luxury at its royal best, had to be after all it was what Rishabh symbolized. The only thing different in Rishabh and many others in his state of affairs was that despite being head deep in materials of highest order he was not a materialist. He actually lived the life like a lotus leaf, very much in the rut but never bedazzeled or covered by it. Ironically this aspect of RK would only be visible to them, who would have been close enough to see him interacting with Belama. She recalled the love and longing with which he used to roll the hot glass of masala chai between his palms before sipping it. The pleasure that every sip gave him was so obvious on his face. On the contrary he always enjoyed his tea that was served in the finest of china with scones and cookies baked to meticulous perfection with a very subtle detached look. She remembered an instance just yesterday, when RK had explained the qualities of of the pricey Villeroy and Boch China made in Luxembourg to Mrs Habib. Even though he appeared to enjoy the hot and well steeped tea, made and served to perfection in a country where tea was not a norm. He was actually hardly bothered by it.

Madhu was busy in her own land of thoughts and evaluations when RK entered in and tapped at her shoulder. She was again startled.

"Is jumping every now and then a norm in your job?" RK asked.

Madhu just smiled and looked at him with profound admiration. It did not go unnoticed but now was not a time to dwell on to these softer aspects of life. He went to make a call to some one and left her to her thoughts. After he was done with the call he told Madhu that he would be back in time to take her to the meeting. He needed to meet someone. RK knew that going into all this all alone was sheer idiocy and believing that Americam govt would back them up was even bigger an idiocy. In reality govts hardly cared for the scape goats like Madhu in such situations. These scape goats actually gave ultimate sacrifices and unfortunately were always left unsung. Acreditting them would geopardise international relations and affairs. The problem was not that the govts wanted to do so, but the problem was they never had any other option but to resort to these tricks and treacheries. The price of national security was very high in every which country and it was always paid by its people. He was not very confident about this backup but still something was better than nothing.

He met with him and his 3 friends in a murky hotel in an alley parallel to the strip.

"Parmeet this could get bad." RK told the ranger from the park.

"RK sir it is not always that one gets an opportunity to live and die for others."

"You wont even get as much as a mention in news if you happen to die worst you could even be labled a thug or something to conceal everything."

"So be it sir atleast for one day I will live my life to its full potential. Atleast for this day I will do something greater than life itself. If by any chance we escape alive out of this atleast I will live in pride of this day."

Rk looked at him in admiration, he was young, and had an entire life time infront of him to live and enjoy but he chose to come to back them up. He also came with two of his friends. One of them was deployed in Afganistan and was here on a leave. RK was feeling too sick to see him here.

"This is what I am best at. I could not have skipped at even the slightest hope of beating this Abakumov and his likes." Said Jayden with a slight careless tilt to his head. He was just 25 and was fighting a battle for not himself but for so many others. For the first time it hit RK why his dad was such a fanatic. He for the first time felt his dad's agony in which he had spent his entire life. It is not easy to see all this amount of ugliness around you and not get affected by it. Some learn to deal with it but others like his dad actually embark on the toughest task of dealing with it. Such tasks are bound to create the insanity that his father lived in. For the first time he felt had his father been patient with him probably he would have come around, but then patience was never IG kundra's virtue.

RK was waiting for Bittuji as he was to come here with someone his dad had arranged for and he was to get 5 revolvers and ammunition from him. Bittuji was 10 mins late but had everything that his dad had ordered. RK paid the middle man in cash. He was actually the informant to Indian Govt. His name was Roger Singh, actually it was Rajender Singh but people here found Rajinder difficult to pronounce so they started calling hin Rajin and then it turned to Roger. His life was once rescued by IG Kundra when he lived in India quite sometime back. After that he had disappeared and came in touch with Mr Kundra again just a few years back. He had become a small time arms dealer and had a successful nexus in America. His younger brother was arrested on false charges and Mr Kundra had helped him yet again to clear every thing up. Since then he had become a secret informant to Indian govt. He also Promised RK that he was just a call away and would provide for what ever was needed. RK felt a little more at ease knowing that he had some backup arranged for Madhu. He provided all the three of his men a complete set of formal clothes apt to go dining and a lot of cash and rented cars. They looked like some big time business men once they changed into their gears and hid their revolvers. RK was very cautious to go all cash way and had instructed all of them to do the same.

Chapter 97

All set RK turned to Bittuji, and saw him look utmost concerned and terrified.

"what happened Bittuji? Yeh chehre pe 12 ke alawa bhi aur bahut kuch baj raha hai."

"Chief why do we need to get into all this murky business? I mean bhabiji doing all this is understandable. She has the authority and the training but why do you need to put your neck onto the chopper board. Moreover if Bhabi ji gets to know about all this she will be very upset. Above all what if something goes wrong. We are not on our soil''" RK stopped Bittuji's train of objections.

"Bittuji when did this happen?" RK looked really amazed

"What chief?" Bittuji looked around himself to see what exactly had happened.

"You no more need to breathe, you can just live without breathing. American scientists would love to slit through your system and do their research on you'."

"Chief this is not a joke."

"Precisely Bittuji! No time to joke around. What do you think I have not weighed my options? Do you think I am enjoying what I am doing? Do you think there is an option? It is a mess in which two most important people of my life are entangled."

"But chief do they even mean a thing to you?" RK closed his eyes as bittuji said those stabbing words and called out him. His temper now was soaring high, but he was trying to keep a check onto himself hard real hard. Whatever Bittuji said was what was evident, it was not his fault if people did not look deaper into his actions. It was not his fault if they took him on face value.

"Bittuji'" he was at loss of words his eyes the hurt and the anger both told Bittuji that he had crossed that thin line which he had always respected.

"Chief mujhey aapki yeh eka ek paida hui mohabbat nahi samajh aa rahi. A few weeks back the woman whom you had married was the woman whom you hated. The man whom you hold responsible for all the agny of your life now you want not only yourself but other's also to put their lives on line."

"stop it bittuji and you are fired. Quit right now before I do something that I will regret all my life. Get out." RK said in a very cold and low tone.

Bittuji was hurt not for what RK said just now for he had been getting Bittuji out every other day when drunk. He was upset because today he could not do any thing to bring his chief back. He was riding high on the disasterous horse of love and adventure. Bittuji knew very well RK's restless and adventure seeking temperament was always behind all the troubles that he landed in uptill now including his marriage. This was but an insanity that was just beyond all limits. How could he do this? He was an intelligent man. Any reasonable person would say that this was like handling radioactive elements without any protective gear. He also knew that there was nothing he could do to bring any any of them back. He turned an left but casted one more look at RK before going out and said

"Chief I will pray for your safety and your family's too. I am too scared to accompany you in this act of yours. I am sorry chief."

"Jaiye Bittuji" RK mellowed down knowing that his little man was feeling scared and that was natural. "I will see you in LA to finish the shoot"

"Chief '.." Bittuji could not speaka word and left RK heavy hearted and teary eyed.

RK looked at his watch and rushed back to the Venetian. He needed to take Madhu for the meeting. RK had called Madhu to come in the front porch of the casino to go for the meeting they had to go to the mayor's house. When RK entered the porch he saw Madhu talking to a woman wearing a scarf and big goggles. She was a stranger, Madhu's eyes met with RK's and Madhu took a paper fromt hat woman and rushed to her car. Before she could reach the Car RK opened the back door like a dutiful chauffer. Madhu did not like it but knew that she had to do it. It would keep him safe.

Yeah that has got to be some work. Take as long as you like. I am around. Toronto is a big city but if I am not in the mountains slaving away in a rat lab (side note: promoted from bacteria to rats), I will find you.

Chapter 98
The meeting was a match between both sides actually between Madhu on one side and both the indian govt and American Govt on the other. The only difference was That of both the American govt was more than audacious in voicing concerns about madhu's Loyalty. Madhu kept her head calm and stood firm on her grounds. Since the American govt had no options they finally agreed to trying to force Balraj to relinquish his right to a trial. Conditions applied were that Madhu would keep her mouth shut and actions in restrain till abukimov was arrested alive. His alive arrest was mandatory. Any written document from the state would hold no value as this was an agreement to not abide by law. Madhu had no option but to go by their word. She would meet Blaraj for the first time tonight.

Madhu came back in the car after the meeting and left for Venetian. She needed some time to herself before embarking on this journey. Rk noticed her retrospective mood and kept to himself.

Once back in their suit Madhu went to change. Andrew, And one other officer were to help her in this mission. She was going to Ceaser's palace today to just watch them from afar and try to find out every thing relevant that she could. She had noticed one thing very peculiar during the meeting today. The Attorney of states looked very strained and uneasy. He was distracted, she needed to get info on him. He was either a mole or something was wrong. RK watched Madhu in deep thought, he wanted to ask Madhu about the woman she was talking to earlier but he did not want to disturb her.

"Rishabh" Madhu called out to him

"So you are finally out from your trance?" He asked in a funny tone " So Devi what lies in my future?" He said with folded hands. Madhu could not help and laughed wholeheartedly. RK did have that knack in him to make Madhu laugh even in weirdest of the situations.

"What did that woman want?" he again asked this time serious.

"She was seeking this devi's blessings" Madhu smile wickedly. She knew curiousity was not RK best friend and RK could never handle it patiently.

RK sensed that Madhu wanted to fool around but now was not the time. Above all he was RK so while certain things were allowed to him any time same could not be said for others in his company. He was right he had not mutated into anything unrecognizable. He got up from to couch and went and sat too close for Madhu's comfort. Madhu felt her haeart racing different this time. The awareness that he loved her was playing on her senses. She tried to move away from him but he held her.

"What was that woman talking about Madhu?"

"Huh Madhu looked away from him and smiled genuinely and said "You sir are certain to loose your charm if you continue to be so boring. Is that all you could say even when so close to me?"

"what are you trying to hide Madhu?" he was clearly not in a mood to play around.

"Nothing RK she was just talking to me about India. She had visited in the past year and had seen the Tajmahal and had loved it. So she was talking to me about it"

RK looked at her skeptically

"Trust me, I don't have reason to hide anything from you."

"There is something that you want to tell me nevertheless, or rather you need to tell me. What is it Madhu?"

Madhu sighed and pulled her hand away.

"I don't know how to say it in a way that you will be convinced RK but in the meeting, I clearly felt that the Attorney of state was very distracted. He looked vexed and extremely worried. Something appeared amiss to me. It is kind of a gut feeling , so I know you wont trust it but I am very sure something was messed up somewhere?"

"Look Madhu it is not that I don't trust you but my point here would be if he looked perplexed it could be for personal reasons rather than it being associated with all this"

"No RK when ever we mentioned BC, he turned restlessly. It was subtle but it was there. Something is wrong RK"

"Madhu are you really certain?"

"I am actually 100 percent certain that something is amiss with him."

RK took out his Ipad and asked Madhu the name of the Attorney of State.

"Matthew Pawlyshyn" Madhu replied

Rk looked up the internet for his pic and found his pic in one of the news sites. It was an old news where he had donated some huge amount to child cancer fund in St. Judes. His elder Grandson had passed away a few years before due to a deadly form of blood cancer called Acute Myleoid leukemia. He had a grand daughter who was 9 years old and a son and his wife. His son was a senator as well.

"Madhu let me send this pic to your sir lets see if he can find some underhand information about him from any of his informants here."

"I need information really soon RK." Madhu said impatiently.

"Madhu breathe, we are not in India we don't have your information circuit here so have patience. When will you leave for ceaser's palace?"

"In an hour"

"I will be back in a min. I have just mailed this to your Sir. Call him and talk to him. Go to the Gondola launch and talk from there. Just ask him to check his email don't give any details over the phone"

"Yes sir" Madhu said playfully and RK smiled a defeated smile. His concern for Madhu had made him forget that Madhu did not need that many instructions. He winked at her and left.

"He gave a call to Parmeet and told him to come with his friends to Ceaser's palace in an hour."He then called Roger and gave him the detailes about the Attorney and asked him to find all he could and as discreetly as he could. RK hinted to him that he would get any amount he wanted for the info

"Tu dollar ki chinta hi mat kar Roger bhai bas information sahi honi chahiye"

RK said in a very local Punjabi tone to Roger.

"24 Hours sirji and aapke paas saari khabar hogi."

RK saw Madhu at the Gondola canal a little while later. She was dressed like a high class muslim girl wearing an expensive Kaftan and a Hijab. She also wore think framed specs. Her face had a big mole on the left side and her front teeth were now resting on her lower lip. She looked weird Not a very efficient disguise but still it was enough to give her some cover. She carried the Prada bag that he had bought her. He smiled at her and gestured her to be back in the penthouse.

RK was already there waiting for her. They ate an early dinner sort of and RK left to get the car. Madhu was getting very tired of this driving business, but she remained silent about it

chapter 99

Madhu meanwhile called Andrew and told him her time of arrival at Ceaser's palace. Andrew's tone towards Madhu had changes drastically. He had understood that hierchy wise she was way senior to him, what really impacted him though was her straight forwardedness and her tenacity. Madhu too noticed the change in his tone. Madhu was not a person to harbor unwarranted grudges against anyone, But she hated preconceived uneducated notions. It was funny that people saw India with a binary vision, either a slum with hoards of poor kids strolling on the street half naked and reeling them selves in the most repulsive drains oblivious of the world around. If by chance few hundred did not make to that side of the vision then they were definitely onto this side, the side that mistress of spices showed, curry, and smell of curry, yoga and herbs, or the likes of Deepak Chopra. For God sake a country with civilization as old as Indus valley, with a diversity of hundreds of languages and cultures that cohabit in mostly a peaceful manner, surely has a lot more to it than what the so called western supremacy wants to see. It was never her problem what they wanted to see but what irked her was they wanted to impose their vision onto her too.

She was brought up not only to to belive in her self as a person but also the feelings of national pride were instilled into her like flowing blood. Her breed was a rarity because her patriotism did not rest in some chapters hidden in history books or cricket matches between India and Pakistan. It came from the depth of knowledge that she had acquired in the course of her very strange life. She knew India on her fingertips, right from the rich past of Indus valley civilization to the current anarchous state. From the unscalable zeniths of Himalayas, to the unfathomable depths of Indian Ocean. From its dark and destitute ends to richness that has no end. From its glories to its disgraces, there was nothing about India that could remain hidden from a citizen like Madhu. It was this knowledge that made her love for India totally unquestionable in her own mind. Nothing could sway her to the other side of the fence. In her mind now though all her resentment for Andrew had vanished.

She was now waiting for RK to bring the car in the front porch. Within a few Minuites RK was there . Madhu reached ceasers palace in 10 mins. She met with Andrew and Janice another officer assigned to this case. She was one of the feds who previously would have kept their identity from Madhu but now there was no need. Janice was a very amicable woman in her early thirties. She hugged Madhu warmly and then walked with her to one of the rooms in the hotel. Once in she formally introduced herself to Madhu. She also informed Madhu all the information she had gathered since past two days about Balraj and associates. 95 percent of it was stale for Madhu but the 5 percent that was not was like a punch in her gut.

Dipali was the play toy for Balraj. It appeared that Balraj had something of importance in his custody viz a viz Deepali because of which she was enduring lot of visible physical abuse. Twice yesterday when they were at the card table, she had noticed that Dipali had winced and hidden her pain in an agonized smile. It was though not visible what had caused her such pain. She appeared to be having difficulty walking. She never ate anything from her plate when she sat with them for dinner. The phone in the room of Balraj was tapped and so was Dipali's and Kuku and Sikander bhatia's. They could not manage to get a camera in their rooms as they could not get a warrant for that. From the phone conversations it was pretty clear that Kuku Bhatia had the info of what was under Balraj's control that had put Dipali in trouble.

Madhu was feeling really sad for what Dipali was going through. She knew Balraj was one of those who inflicted pain on others for sheer personal pleasure. She was once told by Gafuran the level of physical abuse Balraj could inflict for sheer pleasure. Madhu felt a tremor coursing through her body at the sheer thought of what Diplai may be going through. No one deserved such agony.

"Do we have any clue as to what could be the reason behind Diplai bearing all this"

"We have not looked into it. I am so sorry but this was not our priority Madhu. I hope you will understand it." Said Janice in a remorsefull tone.

"I understand" said Madhu, she knew that right now many more lifes were at stake given that Abakumov was involved in it. Any govt would give priority to him than to Dipali's issue. It was a painfull truth but nothing could be done about it.

Janice then showed Madhu her service revolver and an extra one that she always had strapped to her boots. Madhu was taken aback by this exhibit. This was uncalled for. No one did it, there had to be a reason for it. She looked at Janice questioningly for some clue but her face was exceptionaly blank. Madhu thought it was any ways not a time to think about this as their call interceptor showed Blaraj in a call with Kuku. They had decided to go down for dinner in 15 minutes. Janice and Andrew went to Dinner right then, Madhu stayed back. She had decided to go snooping in Balraj's room personally though it was totally uncalled far and a bad bad idea but then it was Madhu Nothing could be done about her recklessness. Janice said repeatedly that it could jeopardise their entire mission but Madhu pacified her saying she had handled much more difficult situations.
