The only other thing it might be is that RK is doing all this because of Trishna's curse. She told RK and Madhu that they could never be happy together and so when RK saw Madhu almost strangle to death he got in the fear of losing her forever since he has lost everyone he has been close to so far in his life.

I guess we have to accept that RK is immature...but the thing is that RK has recognised Madhu's love for him even before Madhu confessed it. I don't know if RK is really is immature.
