RK forced Madhu into an incomplete marriage because then his hatred knew no bounds after the four slaps she gave him in public. He made her Madhubala Rishab Kundra from Madhu Shamsher Mallik. Yesterday he freed her from that half marriage and returned her maiden name to her because now his love for her knows no bounds. Strange? Here is my explanation.
RK always knew that Madhu had very strong ties with her family. That is why when he set out on his vengeance path after his four-day imprisonment, he tried to break each and every member of her family. He ensured Trishna's bollywood dreams were killed, he ruined Madhu's reputation and broke her engagement, and his men confined Mallik to bed. If Madhu had meekly taken all this injustice without retorting, the story would have ended there but Madhu is no pushover. She went to his studio and gave him those four slaps (the number four does seem to have a big role in this show) in full view of the people in the studio. He retaliated by forcing her into a four phere marriage and repeatedly humiliated her and her family in return for saving her father's life. While she initially bore it all, soon she gave as good as she got.
RK began to appreciate the strength of this woman as was shown in his smile after she broke all his alcohol bottles and ordered milk for him. He kept referring to her as his jungle billi and it was this facet of hers which attracted him to her.
The misunderstanding surrounding the publishing of his photos with his dad led to another landmark in their relationship. He sunk to a new low when he took his humiliation of her to the extreme by making her serve drinks to his guests and mishandling her in public. His mother's reality check pulled him out of the depths he had sunk to and he retrieved himself back in time to save Madhu. That night for the first time he opened up to her about his past and from then on Madhu began to see the man behind the facade of the 'super star'.
Knowing that he was not as much of a monster he portrayed himself to be, she began to assert her rights as his wife and brought in the Ganesh idol despite his protests, conducted the aartis irrespective of whether he wanted to participate in it or not. He secretly started admiring and even respecting this side of her. A man who was estranged from his God, seemed to have found his way back to him when he enthusiastically participated in the Ganesh Visarjan. Things took a turn when he was shot at during the event and nearly lost his life. It is during this time that Madhu rose to the occasion and retrieved her husband from the clutches of death. This was the time she realised her feelings for her husband. The stronger her feelings for him grew, the more emotionally vulnerable she was becoming. This was a fact which was not lost on RK. When his father-in-law tried to attack him again, he was alert enough to stop him but went to great lengths to hide the fact from his wife. We later learn that it was because he did not want her to hurt as much as he did by the betrayal of your own. At this point the guy had already fallen for his wife but wasn't fully aware of it himself.
While the man himself was increasingly getting attracted to his wife and missed her sorely when she wasn't around (the reason why all this cannot be faking), he wasn't too happy to see this vulnerable and traditional side of her. The first sign of this came during the KC. He hated the fact that she was fasting for him and wilfully refused to come home so that she may be forced to break it. Unfortunately for him, she is even more stubborn than him and he was forced to break her fast and ended up taking care of her. His discomfort in her newly assumed role of the docile housewife was evident in his lashing out at her when she took the trouble of preparing a meal for him even though she was still weak from the fasting of the previous day. Sadly that was also the day she wanted to confess her love. He soon repented and made up to her in filmy style by recreating the KC in his studio.
The guy slowly started acknowledging to himself that he was falling for this woman when his ex-girlfriend turned sis-in-law provoked his insecurities which led him to first confess his love to Madhu and then test the strength of his wife's love for him. When he realised that her love for him was indeed strong enough for her to be willing to leave everything and come with him, he set out to right all the wrong he had done to her, be it in making her forgive her father for his attempt to kill him or arranging Sham-Pad wedding or engaging a new producer to help Trishna realise her film dreams. The minute he knew that the new producer was none other than his bad father-in-law he rushed to save Madhu's life. So at this point RK has redeemed himself for all the troubles he gave to Madhu. If Madhu had saved his life he has saved hers too. One can say they are on an even plane now, but are they ?
Here comes the next turning point. Pads is convicted for killing her husband and Madhu lashes out against all the injustice done to woman in the court. RK's conscience pricks him for he was a monster too before his transformation. He was also instrumental in bringing back into their lives, the man who tried to kill his wife, although he wasn't aware of who he really was at the time. While his wife's reassurances put his mind to ease to some extent, these feelings still remain under the surface.
To add to this was his need to get away from all his fame and wealth to rediscover himself and regain his faith in humanity, a cause his wife fully supports and is willing to be a part of. While he would love to have his way and his wife by his side he sees how much this decision of his is tearing her apart. She may tell him that she is happy to come with him but he knows that she is deeply saddened by the prospect of leaving her family, particularly her mom whom she is closest to. Knowing how much this woman has done for him, can he expect her to sacrifice everything for him? She will do so quite willingly but can he live with another huge obligation on his part? He spent the good part of the last three months paying back the obligations of her past act. Could he do it again now?
This is where I think this whole revenge track comes in (which to me appears to be a fake revenge track). He loves her far too much to make her weak and vulnerable which is what she is becoming. Her devotional and unconditional love is willing to go to any extent to suffer in silence so that he will regain what he has lost ' his faith in the power of love. She was willing to forsake her family which meant everything to her in order to be with him but he is not willing to take so much and not be in a position to return it all with interest. So he has adopted this route of hate to free her from the shackles of marriage. He hopes that her love for him which had made her weak would be replaced by hate which would strengthen her.
Would he forsake all his wealth and fame at this point? I think not. That is why his letter to his mom was a mere blank sheet. I think he will stick around to being the super star, if not for anything but to goad her into finding her own identity in the industry into which she was born and which has nurtured and given him everything he owns in his life.
The next chapter in the lives of these fiery and passionate couple is about to begin - the birth of a star- Madhubala.
