Madhu mentioned also that RK made her feel like a failure, that all the many attempts to reassure him of her character had not made him trust her, what she meant by that was the mukhund accident when she never took his money (so therefore she is not a girl that is after fortune), she also didn't speak to the newspapers to sell her story when he ruined her reputation to get money that way either during that time, after their marriage she faced a decision when he was shot to let him die and be free of him, she chose to save his life (praying for him, speaking and arguing with him to wake up, walking barefoot to the temple, giving him her blood) she could have sat back let him die and be a rich widow, but no she saved his life so that he could be with her for her lifetime, similarly the karva chauth fast she was ill, ate sargi from the dustbin (all this RK knows about) but kept the fast for his long life again for the same reason, so that he lives and stay with her for the rest of her life, so that dialogue she said of her attempts to reassure him of her love had failed, she was not sure she would ever be able to reassure him of her sincerity and would never make him trust in her love. So I was thinking it's two parts her ability to make him believe in her love for him and also she thinks his love confession to her was part of the test.

So now she feels foolish to trust him, having changed so much, smiling when he smiles, taking his insults, willing to follow him anyway and leave her family all because she trusted him that he had their best interests at heart and all of it was a game, that's what she said to him because her trust in him is broken. So his the culprit for listening to Dipali who does not understand sacrifice for a person you love, (all the reassurances above Dipali could never do, all RK should have done is tell Dipali them and tell her to get out of the room). RK failed also to realise what this test would do to his relationship to Madhu were she to ever find out.

We know it's his insecurities (his weakness) of being betrayed by those that love him, that allowed him to listen to Dipali, and even if she reassured him so much those insecurities to have love can't be quenched, but I feel she had finally succeeded when she said she would go leave with him somewhere with no wealth and status...but now it's all gone that plan.
