according to hindu calendar we go by tithi like pratham, dwitiya, tritiya, etc. and also the hindu months like paush, magh, falgun etc. - not by numbers like 1,2.

Tithi is the hindu calendar day. so here Radhaji is talking about the hindu tithi, the day when RK's father died on that particular day in a particular month.

On that day Hindu's do some pooja etc. for the eternal peace of the soul of a person whose tithi it is. here Radhaji has come for that purpose so early in the morning.

RK who does not believe in such things, is drinking on that particular tithi also, though he goes to temple, where they always go usually.

It can be both...
