MADHU'S HOUSE

She waited for fifteen minutes, her eyes glued on the screen. She reached for the phone impatiently. As her fingers prepared to dial, an incoming call came home to her, an unknown number.

"Hello?"

"Am I speaking to Ms.Madhubala Mallik ?" A woman's voice said, definite and clear.

"Yes. Who are you?" The line disconnected as soon as she finished.

"Strange!" She exclaimed and another call arrived.

"Hey! What's wrong? Why didn't you answer?"

"You know what? From the moment I've returned home I'm being invaded by blank calls. And don't know what's wrong with the signal! I have to stand outside in the garden now."

"You too? I've only been confirmed my identity." She laughed, "I think it is someone from our friends circle. Were you deducting the balance of the prankster? Your phone was engaged from the past fifteen minutes. Or were you cursing him on his face?"

"That Rowdy Rathore had called me."

"What did he say?"

"What we didn't know." He replied coolly.

"Terrorist attack? We suspected that."

"Yeah. This suspicion led them to investigate the history of our company. Today they had reached the headquarters and checked out the bio data of every member who had worked in this company for the past fifteen years. God knows what they had gone through by viewing all the files in the computer," He chuckled, "And guess what? They found Gaurav Chauhan's file! They were so goddamn angry on Dad for keeping it a secret!" He laughed, "But he excused himself out of it by saying it was a long time ago and he did not remember."

"Hm. Eleven years ago." She calculated that both of them were of seventeen years then and they had met for the first time.

"Rathore said that some Inspector Dilip Kashyap was in charge of Gaurav Chauhan. He was killed in an encounter some definite eight years ago. Gaurav Chauhan being just a link thread to the actual gang was released this year on mid-February."

"But these messengers are kept in custody until the Master Minds are caught?"

"His lawyer claimed that Gaurav was having an 'injustice' by staying in custody for so many years. Plus, the police had caught a better man of the team and the court agreed to release him."

"It's not done! Such type of people gets life imprisonments often!"

"I asked him the same. He shamefully replied that there were aberrant reasons behind it. You know, bribes, not too strong evidences, and then comes the publicity. I remember even Dad was disagreeing to continue this case then. But the ultimatum is the gang has not been caught yet."

"Ye hi problem hai iss country ki!" She shook her head, "But why did he say these things to you?"

"What d'ya mean?"

"I mean, he should have said these to Uncle, right? But why you?"

"Oh! I don't'" He cut off.

"What?"

"Damn! I didn't notice that! He had added in the end of the call that they had got the information that Gaurav Chauhan was seen in the international airport in Mumbai on Christmas evening. They checked the CCTV camera footage too. And they saw him'"

"Yes, so? That's good. They will get to know more from him. This blast had a link with Gaurav na."

He ignored her, "He didn't say this directly. But he saw me too!"

"Oh ho! Its just a coincidence that you had returned on the same date from Bangkok. Even me too."

"Madhu, I forgot to tell you this. Gaurav was on the same flight as me, in fact he had his seat beside mine. More than that! He remembered me, even he saw you that afternoon in the park."

Silence from the other end.

"Madhu? Are you there?"

"You mean they are suspecting you?"

He shrugged, "Maybe."

"I think if it would have been, then he would have told you directly. Right?"

"God knows'"

She was drowned in some thought for a while and then added in a different tone, "C'mon lets not talk about this any more. We'll see when it comes."

He agreed, "'Wanted you to say that. Though it's never going to come. Anyways. Why did you call me?"

"Oh! Open your TV to NDTV news channel'"

He cut her off, "Why, they are throwing tantrums about this disaster. Huh. Jus' let it be."

"Oh come on! It's not a thing to be let gone. Similar blasts in five ports! You're involved too dear." She smiled mischievously.

"And it is you who asked me not to discuss this again."

MADHU'S HOUSE'

Padmini was engaged in preparing for the lunch. She thought for a moment that only one week was left for the wedding. They had already distributed the wedding cards to the far relations. Only some were left, mostly from the near ones. Someone rang the calling bell.

She hurried to the door. She looked at the person as if he was some notability, and then relaxed her features.

"Is this Madhubala Mallik's house?"

"Yes."

"Courier."

"Oh. Thank you. Where to sign?"

"One minute, madam. First you just check if this phone number is correct." He said as he handed her the envelope.

Padmini opened her mouth to speak but the man abruptly added, "And the address also."

27^TH DECEMBER: 1:00 PM

MUMBAI POLICE STATION'

The atmosphere here was the controversy. No one was talking without reasons. The cells in the corridor were silent too. Aditya Rathore was sitting on his chair. He twisted a pencil between his two fingers, waiting'

A man entered the room in a civil dress.

"Good afternoon, Sir." He said.

Rathore nodded and signaled him with the pencil to have a seat.

"Thank you." He obeyed and then continued, "Sir, as you'd said, I investigated more about the relation between Gaurav Chauhan and Rishabh Kundra. I tried to enquire with the air hostesses on that flight that day. They said they did not notice much about these two people, neither did they remember anything clearly."

"Hm. So it's clear from their conversation at the counter that they talked about something inside the plane. 'Keep watching out' ' yeh hi bola tha na ussne?"

"Yes, Sir. So, Rishabh Kundra has nothing to do with this?"

He nodded wisely, "We can't guarantee. Look, he did not say anything that he had met Gaurav Chauhan on his return from Bangkok. Both that Gaurav used to work in their company and he was caught red-handed was also not given. Okay, if we deny that he shut it up as it was too long ago, we can't that he was not present there at the spot when the blast took place. He had excused himself."

"Par Mohan Kundra bhi toh waha maujud nahi tha. Aur woh apne hi ship ki kyun karwaega blast?Aur, Sir, dekha jae toh, ussne na kaha kyunki Madhubala Mallik se usse milna tha. Yeh ekk ittefaak hi ho sakta hai." Something silently occurs in his mind'if Madhubala has some connection...

"Uss aadmi ka naam kya hai jo Gaurav Chauhan ko pakarwaya tha?"

"Sir, ah'Vijay Thakur."

"Mm." He pursed his lips in appreciation for the catchy name. "Rishabh Kundra in sab mein mila hua hai ya nahi, yeh iss Thakur se pata chal sakta hai."

"Toh, ab kya kare Sir?"

"Iss Vijay Thakur ko uthao."

MEANWHILE AT VELMONT COFFE HOUSE'

"Its just one week to go!!!" Madhu beamed when Rishabh arrived at their usual meeting place.

"And then you are going to be mine forever!!!" He reflected her mood.

"But don't you think it's all so faded?"

"Faded?" He raised his eyebrows.

"Yeah, I mean no engagement, no mehendi, no sangeet. Direct wedding. Not fair. At least engaement toh hona hi chahiye."

"Hm. But if you want an engagement now, then you have to wait for the marriage at least for two to three more months. And the guests have been already invited."

"Okay, then mehendi?"

He was about to reply but they were interrupted by Madhu's phone ring.

"Hello?"

No answer.

"Hello? Hello?" She cut off the line.

"Craps?" He asked.

She scowled and nodded.

"Do one thing! Block that number. I did the same." He suggested.

"Good one!" She was about to reach for the options but he said suddenly, "Achcha wait! Show me once!"

She handed over the phone to him. He sighed. "It's the same."

"Sure it is someone from our friends circle. You know, they are teasing us."

He didn't reply but looked gravely at the screen.

"What?"

"Mujhe jalne ki boo ah rahi hai." He grinned. She took her time to think for some time.

"You mean, Deepali?"

He shrugged coolly, handing her back the phone. She smiled shaking her head.

"She's mad." He exclaimed. But her smile faded out suddenly.

"What if this is connected to'that'case?"

He fluttered his hand in the air. "O c'mon! Be practical. What do you mean? That'that'that some terrorist is giving us blank calls. Okay it will have a meaning if he does that with me. But why with you?"
