Because so many people enjoyed it and wanted to read on...

{Redefining Forever}

"If by now you're a little confused, don't be too hard on yourself. Life is confusing, and anyone who claims that she has all the answers has probably uncovered the wrong ones."
-Kristen Miller, Inside the Shadow City

Part 4
"The City"

Here's a little something about Gramercy Park, it's not your average area in NYC but rather a serene beautiful park surrounded by a fence in which properties were locked up and only those with the keys can enter. And keys to these places were impossible to obtain.
She opened the door to Dr. Hemsworth's "apartment" to be welcomed by a delightful sight.

It was... beautiful. The entire place was elegantly decorated with antiques from the early 20th
century, she could tell.

It was maintained excellently too, no dust, no cobwebs, it was strange. She pulled the covers off of the furniture and Beau started turning the place into a home.

Pictures were one of the few things they brought over besides clothes, and they didn't leave a
single one in the bag. Everywhere you went you'd see a photo frame reminding them of home.

She picked up a newspaper. Time to find some work...

***

"...along with my degree in Fashion, I'd also like to share that I made prom dresses for almost all the girls in my town back home."

"How many girls is that?" The woman asked noticing her slight southern accent.

"Around 26, I come from a small town in Tennessee you see, down there a small community is
all that's required to make a town."

"That's impressive, and the designs you've sketched out for us are nice too. And as much as I'd love to hire you as a designer for our company, I really can't. We don't have an opening." The lady expressed the disappointment she felt in her voice.

"Do you have any other job?"

"We have some openings at one of our shops but the job is that of a mere employee who folds
up clothes and places the misplaced one back on the racks. I'm sure you wouldn't want tha..."

"It's perfect!"

"Excuse me?"

"It's perfect, I'll take it!" She repeated with enthusiasm.
The woman looked at her as if she had lost her marbles. "Are you sure?"

"More than ever! When do I start?"

"Well it's around Gramercy Park, on the outskirts of it of course, you know it's impossible to have a boutique and that too in Gramercy Park."

"Uh... yeah..." She spoke trying to hide the fact that she lived there to her. Anyone would find the fact that a small town simpleton like her had a key to a piece of property in Gramercy Park.

"You can start today,"

***

Work was interesting, very few people came into the store, it figures though she concluded after
looking at the price tags of the items in the store. $650 for a scarf?

And when someone did come in most of the rather experienced workers helped them around. It was
rather boring compared to what she though NYC would be like. But I guess the rich part of town was also the quiet part of town.

But it gave her a nice handsome paycheck for someone who was a mere shop employee and it gave her something to do.

Her shift would be over in 5 minutes. Thank god.

***
She had around 20 dollars with her. Probably enough for hot drink and a little snack.
There was Starbucks on one side and Dunkin Donuts on the other. What to do? How will she
solve the endless confusion in a second?

She got a coin out and flipped it. Heads for Starbucks and Tails for Dunkin Donuts. No, no, wait, Heads for Dunkin Donuts and Tails for Starbucks. Oh what bloody ever! She decided as she finally just flipped, rather threw the coin, to see it hit someone.

"Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry! You see there was the Starbucks and the Dunkin Donuts and I
was..."

"Hey don't sweat it," A girl probably in her early twenties, turned around handing her
back the coin.

"Thanks," Madhu sounded relieved.

"So I take it that you're new to the city," She commented observing her slight southern accent and bright choice of clothing.

"I make it too obvious don't I?" Madhu joked, heading towards Dunkin Donuts.

"Just a little," The girl giggled with her.

"You're going in for coffee too?"

"I actually work here, well my mom owns it but I work here too."

"In that case I'd like one extra-large hot chocolate, regular blend, and a Boston Creme Donut."

"Actually you do make it too obvious!" The girl chuckled as she entered the employee side
of the counter.

"How so?"

"You prefer hot chocolate to coffee, and that too an extra-large and you order Boston Creme, woman around here eat the bare minimum they need in order to survive!" She chuckled.

"Well I prefer to enjoy the offerings of life," Madhu grabbed a seat in the empty shop.

"You're like breaths of fresh air around here... err..." she paused at the uncertainty
of her name.

"Madhu, and you are?"

"Elizabeth, but most people call me Lizzie."

"I like Liz, Lizzie takes too much effort for my laziness to sat and Elizabeth sounds
like an old lady!" She giggled.

"I know right! Finally someone who gets me! So what brought you to this wonderful city?" Liz sat down opposite her as the shop was empty.

"I er... actually I was kind of unsure as to what I wanted to do with life but I knew it had to be something creative. So I just decided to come to the place that is known for creativity."

"Aah, I see so any luck?"

"Well I tried my hand at a subtle designer's company. It's not very well known, they have around 6-7 stores around the area. I didn't make designer so I just decided to go with a store employee."

"That's good, no one makes it big overnight anyways. Well Justin Bieber did but I mean, that's what happens when little hormone raged 13-year old girls get access to Youtube." Liz commented to which Madhu broke into a heartfelt laughter.

"It's nice to meet someone who'll eat, drink, speak, and laugh as they please and not worry about if they're doing something wrong." Liz in a way complimented her as they got up and Liz began to close down the shop.

"Thanks," Madhu was quite flattered.
"So what are you doing tonight?" Liz asked as she seemed to be jotting something down on the back of their business card.

"Nothing really,"

"Well here's my number, be ready by 6:30."

"What?" Madhu was quite confused.
"That means I'm going to be taking you out to roam the city tonight. As your first friend in New York City."

And there she had it, she made her first friend.

"Thank you thank you thank you sooo much!" Madhu pulled her in a hug to which Liz silently chuckled.

"Too obvious?" Madhu laughed.

"It's ok, I like my southern poppy." Liz joked as she locked the shop and headed towards her car. "Need a ride?"

"No it's ok, I was planning to take the bus anyways,"

"And now you're going to be planning the playlist of songs we play in my car," Lizzie pulled her in.

How was she to tell her...

"So where do you live?"

"Uh... Don't over react if I tell you, please..."

"Oh come on, give me a break,"

"Gramercy Park,"

"WHAT THE?"
"I said don't overreact, I promise you I'm not rich or anything. I just knew someone who happened to own property here and they let me stay there till I get a place of my own."

"Lucky you! Forget picking you up, I'm self-inviting myself to your place." Lizzie
commented as she adjusted her rear-view mirror.

"Haha, you're more than welcome. I'm living with a friend of mine, but I'm sure you'll
get along with him just fine."

"Him? So he's a guy? So is it like a with benefits?" Liz nudged.

"He's gay." Madhu replied and then chuckled at Lizzie's expectations.

"Darn it!"

"Don't worry, we'll find you a hottie soon."

"I hope so! Hey put some music on, the CD's should be in that thing,"

"Will do," Madhu complied as she flipped through the CDs to find forgotten tickets there.

"Hey what are these for?" Madhu asked nonchalantly.

"What let me see," she asked for them only to squeal. "OH MY GOSH! I totally forgot! Madhu, how 'bout we go sight-seeing some other day?"

"Totally fine with me, I figured you'd be busy anyways but it was really swe..."

"I'm not cancelling our plans dumbo, I'm just changing them. How would you like to go to
the grand premier of Just Another Love Story, and get to see him live!" Liz fangirled.

"What?"

"See I won these two tickets in a radio competition a while ago and I totally forgot about them, you're a lifesaver Mads otherwise I would have totally forgotten about them and would've lost my chance to see him live walk down that red carpet!" She sighed loudly.
"So we're going to go see a movie?"

"Not just that! It's the premier which means he is going to be there!" She squealed a bit louder.
"Who is this infamous he that you're going on and on about. It's kind of annoying you see." Madhu tended to her ear.

"Rishabh Kundra! God Madhu! Get with the program! Did you not see the promos of that film on TV, isn't he so dreamy!"

Rishabh Kundra? She might have heard the name once or twice, but she never was really into films much. "Uh... I guess so?" She really didn't know how to respond.

"Ugh, Madhu you're such a joykill! Anyways, change of plans we're going to my place to get ready."

"Why? I have clothes."

"Madhu, as much as I love you, I cannot take you to the premier dressed like Ms. Sunshine."

"Arg, fine!"

"And I have just the perfect dress for you and some beautiful stilettos to go with them, god Mads I
feel like a fairy godmother!"
"And I feel tortured." Madhu crossed her arms.

I hope you liked it!
A/N: I love new characters! The thing about them is that
some writers just add them not caring about the fact that they have to be
developed, they can't just be there to fill some space in your story. So what
do you think of Liz? And... (screaming fangirls here's your cue) someone
excited for the premier?
And this was 6 pages on words so a sweet little thank you would be nice *flutters eyelashes*

Love,
Shweta <3
