acutually i dont think that this song has anything to do with any country. it is a punjabi vidai song. whoever explained the meaning of it, has done a good job. the very first time i remember hearin this song is from my grandfather's cassette and the original singer was surinder kaur and song was sung in 1940's. but it does not matter who was the original singer....surinder kaur or mussarat nazir(BTW, i think she has done justice singing punjabi songs), it is more related to punjabi culture than any country.

Basically the chorus is hinting at girls... its saying that they lived in their maayka and now they are going to leave and live in their sasural... sumwer down them lines i suppose.

Yuvi

yeh it reminds me of amant 2 that is similar

hi ladies.....
okay just one correction in the translation.... where it says... "sanu Tak jaandi waari vay"
that doesnt have anything to do with the windows of the house.... it means "the girl is telling her babul (her father) to see her once when she is leaving" because usually fathers are very emotional about their daughters and they cant see thier daughters going away.....

also some of you may think that it is a new song like 10-15 years old, sung by mussarrat nazir.... but it is a folk song which was used during "vidaayi" of a girl by punjabi great great great grand mothers........ and then it was sung by many singers in different versions.... but yes i have to admit, musarrat did a good job..... and you know me an dmy sister sang all her wedding songs for a cousins wedding in UK and everyone was so surprised...........
one more viddayi/ruksati song i like is "ajj di dihaari rakh doli ni ma, rahan baap di ban ke goli ni ma"
means a girl is telling her mom to keep her one more day at her house and in return the daughter is even ready to serve her parents as a maid forever"
it is just so sweet.......... if you guys want e-mail me at agilla27@gmail.com and i can send you the song in your e-mail.. (if you have a g-mail account)
