'I don't care what happened in Shilpa's case' 5 Jan 2009, 0041 hrs IST, DEEPALI DHINGRA |
Kanchi Kaul couldn't have asked for a better start to her new year. She's beginning 2009 with a new show, well, atleast new for her! Kanchi hasreplaced Shilpa Shinde in Dheeraj Kumar's Maayka and will soon be seen playing the role of Soni, one of the lead characters in the show. But of course, Kanchi is most excited and looking forward to it. " She's the central figure and there's a lot of scope for acting because the character goes through varied emotions. The point at which I'm joining, is a turning point for the character, so I'm looking foward to it," she says. But Shilpa apparently was not happy with the role as there was too much 'rona dhona' involved. Kanchi's take? "There is rona dhona magar itna bhi nahin hai. It's as much as there is in every single daily soap these days," she replies. Kanchi isn't bothered with the whole replacing issue either. "I don't know what happened with Shilpa and don't want to know either. All I know is that I was approached for the role and I liked it and said yes, I'm not concerned with what happened before that," she adds. The actress, before this show, had replaced Rucha Gujrathi in Bhabhi before being replaced by Rucha herself a few months down the line. Kanchi laughs when we suggest she's becoming a sort of a replacement expert. "It's not like that at all. Shows go on for so long on TV, changes are bound to happen. Not just in TV, other places as well, someone or the other keeps replacing others. It's just a job, actors don't keep grudges against each other," says Kanchi. And what did she keep herself busy with during this break she took between Bhabhi and Maayka? "Well, I was travelling a lot. I went backpacking to Europe for a month. Then I did a few commercials," she says. A little breather, believes Kanchi, is good for the actor as well as for the audience. But for now, Kanchi would rather have the audience watching her every day! Kanchi Rocks! An excellent replacement for Soni. |
