In this constant need of many to achieve the perfection, I am soo glad that LNMDJ had so many character flaws ...
Yea.. u read correctly.. Flaws!!!! Why is that such a big shock?
I think it is what makes all of us humans, flaws. If we didnt have any, we would be one boring group of individuals. Flaws adds the spice to the otherwise bland world of perfection.
And when my favourite characters display their flaws, I am over the moon? Flaws make me more aware of their other wonderful attributes..
Why so, coz then I can discuss and criticise to my heart's content. The one thing you might have noticed is that if you dont care about a certain character, you wont really criticise it, coz it tends to be a non-entity at that point in time.
I love LNMDJ and all the characters, including Danny and Chaitanya. But would I consider them to be the perfection ki murthi just coz I love them?
Taking the example of my most favourite fictional couple, PriDa.
I love PriDa.. that shouldnt come as a shock to anyone. I loved the way GK and CS played them on screen, that also shouldnt come as a shock to anyone.
But the reason why I love PriDa is not because they are the MOST perfect, flawless couple. The reason is because they are such flawed individuals, that it makes me wring their necks at one point in time and at other times go gaga over their foolishness.
Starting with Damini, the way her character evolved. Was she perfect? Nopes .. all her arrogance displayed early on, her childishness would have put off a few people I am sure. It irritated me as well , but at the same time it intrigued me. Coz I knew she would meet her match at one point and would go from " You are firedddd " to " Nahii.. Main toh.. sirf.. Yeh Keh rahee thi " mumble jumble...
What if she was sacharrine sweet from the get go.. it would have made me diabetic with all the sweetness. I am all for a little spicy with the sweetness..
Then my Prithvi Saxena, what a MAN he was.. Purrfect??? Absolutely Nopess.. All the dense headed schemes, all the attitude, all the anger.. sometimes made me bang my head against the desk and almost made me reach through the screen and hold him and shake him and ask " Why Prithvi.. whyyy are you doing this!!! " But then wat fun it was to watch him go from " Ladki na hoti toh batata" to " mujhey laga aap naa toh kar hi dengee"
What if he was the idealism ka example, always right and purrfect? .. I would have gone "ack ack ack".. Who needs purrfect when I have my Prithvi Saxena?
What about Avni Gujral? On paper, she was the " sweet gujral" sister, but she had major flaws.. her low self-esteem to begin with,.. But having flaws gave her the huge character graph from a " bheegi billi" in terms of relationships to be strong enough to serve the divorce papers to Jai aka apna Sameer Saxena. Her incessant crying ( then transferred to Damini during PTC phase!!) might have driven me crazzyy, but the same strength she displayed when the fraud was disclosed..
Then the most complex character of Sameer Saxena, his flaw list might fill up pages, but at the same time, his redeeming characteristics will warm up anyone's heart.. the same person who wouldnt think twice over ruining someone over revenge, is still the same who would be eternally faithful to his family, be it his mom or brothers.. his love for Avni after the truth is revealed, shows the path of this character ..
Then came Roshni and Varun, admittedly the most underused characters in the series.. but they werent perfect in any world.. The groW*H of the characters from happy go lucky youngsters to someone who got caught up in the web of deceit and lies courtesy their elder siblings..that is a journey as well...
What about Elaji?? super mom to the gals, right .. but wasnt her actions and reactions responsible for almost all that happened in the series? Was she perfect, heck no.. but she wasnt a vamp either ( a necessary ingredient in most desi soaps, apparently..) Her extreme love and need of protection for her daughters made her reckless to Balraj Saxena .. But her journey from the tycoon to a mom asking her son-in-law to take care of her daughter and the family was such a engaging watch..
LNMDJ the series itself, a series which itself was based on an equally out there idea of Revenge and Love.. involving horses, and goggles... what about the flawed screenplay at times and also tons of missed opportunities, esp in the redemption path of the eldest two Saxena brothers makes me whine about it ..But all the quirkiness of the series is actually made it a MUST watch for me
I loved the characters first and foremost and then the actors.. I enjoyed and still do enjoy the freedom I have, that this forum allows me, to love and criticise the characters .. Funnily enough, Criticism is not perceived as negativity and boy Am I glad for that.. otherwise, there would have been tonssss of closed threads on this forum ...😆
Does that make me a flawed individual?? If it does, I am so glad.. coz it makes me human ..😆
