Hey Guys,
Just as I thought this would be my last scene, it turned out a little too long, so decided to break it into two parts as well..

This is a long read, but got tired of editing it, and decided to post it or else, it will remain forever on my laptop again 😃
Scene 17: Bolti Bandh
Next morning, Prithvi woke up from a restless sleep. His dear wife had ditched him for her sisters, and he was not enjoying that fact at all. Left with no choice, he freshened himself and went out looking for his selfish wife. But it wasn't his morning either. He didn't catch a sight of her while having tea with his dear mom-in-law either.
Eventually, there was general commotion in the farm house. Roshni was chirping away to glory, trying out matching accessories for her new biking clothes, a cute top and a biking shorts. In fact, she had it down to all pink. Varun felt his eyes going gol-gol just looking at her. Avni and her Mom were making sure all the other preparations for the picnic in the mountains was done, with the food and entertainment.
Sameer was fussing over Avni. He had decided not to go mountain biking, under the pretext of not leaving Avni and Ela alone. But he had made private plans for spending some quality time with Avni.
Prithvi busied himself with the bikes. He would turn around anytime someone mentioned Damini, but he failed to see her. He received vague answers on her whereabouts, which made him even more suspicious.
He was making sure all the bikes, 4 of them were, all ready for the ride. "Jeej, you will explain right how to use the gears and all?", Roshni asked Prithvi, eyeing the gears fearfully. Prithvi smiled. He nodded and put a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "Yes, Rosh. I will explain once we get on the trail. Don't worry.", Prithvi said. Roshni gave a wide smile. She hugged him and said " Thanks, Jeej.". Then she looked around and said " Lets go, jeej. We are getting late." Varun shook his head. "Rosh, we will go as soon as Damini Bhabhi is ready. "
Prithvi looked up from his bike. He was wearing Bermuda shorts and had a loose fitting Tee. "Where is she?", Prithvi asked. Varun looked uncomfortable. He stammered, " Woh , Bhaiyya, Bhabhi is coming ..". Prithvi looked at him hard. A frown appeared on his handsome face. He asked again , a little sternly, " Varun, what is she upto?".
By now, Sameer, Avni and Ela Gujral were attentive to Varun and Prithvi's conversation. Varun shifted uncomfortably under Prithvi's stern gaze. " She was on the phone with err . umm ", Varun mumbled. Prithvi shook his head. " with whom and for what? Office?", Prithvi asked , trying to keep his voice calm. Varun nodded meekly.
Ela Gujral shook her head. She said, trying to do some damage control, " Prithvi Beta, don't worry, she would be here. Have you finished your bike tune-ups? Why don't you all start loading the jeep with them?"
Prithvi took a deep breath, trying to control his anger at Damini's stubbornness. After all this was supposed to be a vacation. He looked at Ela Gujral and nodded. "Okey, Mumma, We will load the car". Sameer and Varun immediately got busy helping Prithvi. They didn't want to incur any wrath of their big brother.
Roshni looked at Avni with raised eyebrows. Avni smiled at her and went and stood next to her. Roshni turned to her and said in a little voice " Di is going to get in trouble due to me". Avni looked at her younger sis and smiled. She patted her arm and hugged her. She said quietly " Nahi Rosh, Di would have gotten in trouble anyways. " Rosh looked at her and smiled nervously and said " So toh hey .. who asked her to bring work on vacation. I hope Jeej really gives her a good scolding. As it is, he is probably the only one who could dare to do that ." Avni nodded somberly and both had a hearty laugh at the prospect.
In a few minutes, all the bikes and stuff were loaded in the jeep. Prithvi had ordered everyone to take their seats in the jeep. He stood at the door of the driver's seat, tapping his foot impatiently. Everyone looked at each other and wondered, who will break the silence. "Prithvi Jeej, I will go and get Di", Rosh chirped out loud. Everyone looked at her and then at Prithvi, waiting for the response. And Prithvi didn't disappoint them. With a huge frown on his face, Prithvi thundered, " Nahi Rosh, there is no need. " Rosh slunk back in her seat.
"No Need for what?", a voice said cheerfully behind Prithvi. Prithvi turned to face his wife and lost his voice. There was Damini, standing in front of him, wearing a deep pink sleeveless Biker Tee and cute short tight black biker shorts, her hair in loose ponytail and a huge smile on her face.
" how does she manage to look so gorgeous? What is she wearing? Is that pink? Oh dear, Roshni ka asar. Need to keep my wife away from her influence for sure. But have to admit, it does look cute on her. Actually, everything suits my girl." A thousand thoughts flitted through Prithvi's mind.
Prithvi stood there, staring at her. Everyone in the jeep looked at each other and smiled. Damini raised bother her eyebrows at Prithvi and asked again " What?". Prithvi came out of his daze and barely whispered " Huh?" Damini shook her head and opened the back door of the jeep. " Chalo bhi , Prithvi .. we are getting late", she said getting in the jeep and fastening the seat belt. Prithvi drew an inward breath and pursed his lips at that comment. He shook his head. He sat in the driver's seat muttering.
Sameer and Roshni gave out a big laugh. Damini looked at them and asked " Kya?" Sameer said " kuch Nahi , Bhabhi, Socha kuch tha par hua kuch aur, Kyon Bhaiyaa? Chalein ab?" Prithvi gave a deadly look to both Sameer and Rosh and started the jeep.
Prithvi, drove all the way, checking out his lovely wife every few minutes in the rear-view mirror. Sameer observed this and smirked and suddenly called out "Bhaiyya , woh dekho unicorn"
Suddenly brought to earth by Sameer's yell, Prithvi scanned the road until it hit him. He turned sharply towards Sameer to give him a piece of his mind. By now, everyone was finding it difficult to curb their mirth. Sameer looked at everyone behind and then back to his big brother and shrug his shoulders and said cheekily, " Just checking if you have your eyes on the road ahead "
Roshni high fived Sameer, while Avni and Varun just shook their head at them. Ela Gujral had a private smile on her face, while Damini wasn't sure what the whole deal was. She was enjoying the scenery outside, quite oblivious to the fact that she was the object of someone's loving eyes.
They reached the trail head. They parked the jeep and walked a few feet to a lovely picnic area. It was a nice grassy meadow, with rolling hills in front and a nice view of the valley. The crisp mid-morning air, with the sun peeping in and out of the clouds, and the lovely wildflowers dancing in the cool breeze was a heavenly sight to the Gujral-Saxenas.
They settled down comfortably on the meadow, with picnic blankets and baskets on hand. The spot they chose was in shade of a huge tree. Ela Gujral and Avni settled comfortably on the blanket. Roshni sat down gingerly looking for any creepy crawlies on the blanket. Varun saw that and said " Rosh, they will not bite you ". Rosh looked up to him annoyed. " How do you know? They wont bite you but they will bite me for sure. They prefer sweet blood not karela juice". Everyone laughed at that. Prithvi was also now relaxed. The happy party enjoyed morning snacks. After they had done with that, Prithvi got up and started taking out the bikes. Rosh got up excitedly and joined Prithvi.
After Prithvi had assembled the bikes, he turned around to give instructions. Roshni, Varun and Damini were standing in attention. Prithvi explained to them " Remember to use only the right hand brake. This brake will prevent you from going over the handles, if you stop suddenly. Remember to use higher number gears for going down or on flats and lower number gears for going up."
Roshni looks at Prithvi with a confused face , trying to digest all the information he was throwing at her, while Varun was smiling. Prithvi glanced at Damini and saw her smiling. Prithvi raised his eyebrow at her, " Are you listening, Damini?" Damini nodded and continued smiling. Prithvi gave her a weird look and turned his attention to Roshni. He made sure, she got the details. Roshni gulped a bit and looked at Varun for support. Varun nodded gravely.
The foursome came to the start of the trail. The trail was a tiny one. Roshni could see the trail snake leisurely along the side of the hill and then climb sharply at the end, before turning behind the hill. Roshni's eyes widened. She asked Prithvi gingerly " Are we going to climb that on the bike?" Prithvi smiled at her and said" Rosh, you can always walk the bike on the stretches you are not comfortable, okey?" Rosh nodded in thought. Prithvi looked at his companions. They were looking all set on their bikes, with helmets. They all turned back and waved goodbye to the rest of the gang.
They started on the trail. Varun leading the way, followed by Roshni and then Damini and Prithvi. The first few minutes, everyone enjoyed the trail. It was mostly flat, though Roshni was complaining about the rocks on the trail. Then they reached the steep climb. Varun got down from his bike and asked Rosh to do the same. Prithvi and Damini came to a halt as well.
Roshni looked at the climb. The whole rocky climb, with thorny bushes on the side didn't appeal to poor Rosh. Seeing her small face, Varun said gently " Rosh, do you want to walk the bike up this?". Rosh looked at him and asked him " And we will need to come down the same route?" Varun nodded. Rosh looked at Prithvi. Prithvi asked her , " Rosh, do you want to come?. We can always take this alternate route, it will take us back in the loop to the trail head. ". Rosh nodded. Damini looked at the climb. She said gently to Rosh, " Is it okey if Prithvi and I went up the slope? " Rosh nodded her head. Varun said " Don't worry, Bhabhi, Rosh and I will take the other route and we will meet you back at the trail head. Is that okey, Bhaiyya?" Prithvi nodded his head.
Roshni waved goodbye to her Jeej and Di enthusiastically. Prithvi and Damini continued on, with Prithvi following his wife. They rode on for a long time. Everytime, Prithvi would ask her if she wanted to stop, Damini just shook her head and continued on. She would keep on pointing to something afar and just keep at it. Prithvi was very proud of his wife. She was a fighter.
After sometime, they reached a top of a cliff, Damini finally got off her bike. She took off her helmet and went and stood at the edge, taking in the beautiful scenery. Prithvi walked up to her and stood behind her. He offered her the water bottle, which she took without turning back. Her touch stirred Prithvi slightly.
Damini sighed softly and said " It is all worth it , right? Just look at this .." . She gestured towards the vally yawning out in front of them. Prithvi just murmured " Hmmmm", still unable to take his eyes off his gorgeous wife, whose cheeks were flushed pink from the exercise. They stood there for a few minutes, each one enjoying the beauty currently in front of them.
After a while, Damini turned around and almost bumped into Prithvi's broad chest. She looked up to him, and found him still intently staring at her. Damini blushed slightly and raised her eyebrows, still eliciting no response from her husband. She smiled, and touched him lightly on his arm. But instead of moving away, Prithvi's hand went around her waist, pulling her closer involuntarily. He touched her cheek lightly, and Damini bit her lip slightly. He bend down slightly, giving in to his temptation. She murmured, " Prithviiii". Snapped out of the trance by his name being called out, Prithvi saw her gesturing towards his hold. He let go off her reluctantly, and stepped slightly back.
Damini smiled at him and said " Shall we go back?" Prithvi nodded his head, and shrugged his shoulders in resignation. With a slight pang in his heart, Prithvi followed Damini back down the trail.
