There was still silence in the office room with barely any light penetrating through the window as the blinds were closed. The stack of reports sitting on the desk was of least concern to the occupant in the room. Flashes of the meeting came and went but he barely remembered what went on in the meeting. He could only remember her, Avni. It pained him to see what his irresponsibility had led to - for her better and his worse.

The door to the room creaked open as two figure walked into the room. "Sameer?" Mr. Abhi called out as he made out the shadow sitting in the lone office. Turning on the light they saw Sameer sitting with his head resting on the table. Abhi quickly walked towards Sameer as he had never seen him in this state before.

"Sameer" he called out again worried when he got no reply back. Sameer lifted his head up finally as Abhi signed of relief. "Are u ok?"

Sameer just stared at the other occupant in the room not answering Abhi's question. Avni looked everywhere expect at him. He got up and smiled at Abhi saying he was just tired.

"Very well then! He motioned Avni to another office table in the room. "Sameer, Avni will be sharing this room with u from now on. I think she will benefit learning under your guidance. Abhi said smiling at both of them. "Well then, I wish you gud luck Avni. Sameer if u don't feel well take the day off." Abhi said as he left the two alone in the office room.

After a moment of awkward silence both went to sit at their respective desk and Avni began to organize her things. Avni stole quick glances at Sameer as he sat aimlessly looking at the door. He looked more mature from the last time she had seen him. He was dressed the same way as before with a t-shirt and jean with a sweater tied around this neck casually. Her gaze moved up to his face which was now resting between his hands as he read a report. He had a sideburn and a gouti, which looked cute on him. She was used to seeing him with a clean shave. She looked at him taking in each and every structure and feature.

He could feel her gaze on him, even without looking in her direction. He wanted to meet her eyes, but refrained from doing so as he knew she would turn every shade of red possible if he caught her off guard. He smiled knowing that she was interested to know how he was, even though she had pulled a different front at him a few hours ago. He itched to take a glance at her; to see the face that he had grown up seeing each and every morning until 3 years back. Not able to control his inner urge he slowly turned his head towards her on the pretext of a stretch.

Their eyes met for the first time in yearning. The inner turmoil of wanting to look away vanished as quickly as it came into their thoughts. They mutually wanted this time to last forever but neither dared to pour out their inner thoughts. Why did fate bring them face to face with transparent wall between them?

''Sammii, Babbbby!! How much I missed you!'' A women dressed in a short skirt and a tube top came running towards Sameer catching both of the lost souls by surprise. Avni quickly turned to study the picture frame on the other side of the wall, while Sameer just stared blankly at the woman who was now leaning so closely to him.

''What is this I hear about you bringing a women to your house yesterday night, dear?'' Avni's head shoot up when she heard what the women said. Sameer again gave a blank look, not being able to comprehend what she was saying.

''Sammii, tell me, is this true?'' The women whined when she got no reply. Her high pitch whinning brought Sameer back to reality.

''What did you say, Laura? '' He asked ''A. Lady., Did you bring a Lady to your house yesterday?'' Laura asked again this time stressing every single word that came out of her mouth. ''The whole office knows about it and I was the last one to know.'' she pouted.

Sameer finally put the pieces together, and realized that someone must have seen him taking Damini to his house. News surely travels quickly in this part of the world he thought.

''I'm waiting.'' Laura said impatiently tapping her fingers on his desk. She turned her attention to Avni, who was now pretending to look intently at a piece of paper on her desk.

''Did you also know about this news.'' Laura asked as she moved towards Avni's desk. Avni shook her head in reply and went back to examining the paper. She wanted Laura to interrogate Sameer about the girl, as she was curious too, now.

''By the way, Im Laura, receptionist. ''

''Im Avni Abhi.'' Sameer looked at both and it pinned him when Avni said her last name.

''Sooooo.....who is she! ?'' Laura got on the case once again.

''Oh, um, yeah...she is our far away relative. My uncle's brother's wife's brother-in-law's daughter's daughter's. Sameer said trying to sound as confident as possible.

Laura raised her eyebrow. ''You mean to say she is your far away cousin.''

''Cousin, yeah that would work too. Yeah...of course, she is my cousin.'' Sameer said with a big smile wishing Laura would disappear now!

''A visiting cousin. That's it!? And here I was thinking it would be more interesting!'' Laura made her way to door with disappointment but stopped abruptly ''How come you never mentioned about her before, I mean what's with the sudden visit?''

''Ahhh, actually she ran away from her house to marry my brother, Prithiv because her parents said no to their marriage and I didn't know about it until now. '' Sameer said confidently trying to get Laura to stop her investigation.

''Ohhh, that is a much better reason! Aaww, so she is you bhabhi, What a sweet love story!'' Laura jumped with joy to pass on the new bit of info she had gathered.

Sameer turned around to see Avni smiling. ''What?'' He asked trying to act as though nothing happened.

''You uncle doesn't have a daughter, so it is kind of impossible for his daughter to have a daughter!'' Avni said trying to suppress her laugh.

Sameer just smiled seeing her smile. He didn't care she saw through his lie because she had finally spoke to him!

Damini was busy exploring the common rooms of the house. She didn't know why she felt more comfortable here than at her own home back in Mumbai. She let herself to the backyard and lazily swings on the swing. She felt so at ease taking in the afternoon heat from the shining sun.

Prithiv had called some minutes ago on the pretext of asking if there was file in the living room. He had said he would be late coming home but Sameer should be back soon. His kindness had caught her by surprise.

He had even offered her a position at his office if she wanted as Sameer had told him she had worked for the Gujrals. Damini knew this wud be a great opportunity for her to start her life again but she had to find another place to stay. She knew it wouldn't look good for her or the two brothers if she stayed with them especially if she was going to work at the office. She couldn't help smiling at the thought of Prithiv's phone call. She felt so happy getting attention from him.

With a heavy heart Varun dragged his suitcase and bags to his house from the auto. He had not told his brothers he was coming as he left suddenly. He knew he was running away from Roshini but he didn't want to upset Prithiv bhaiyya like Sameer did. He felt terrible leaving Roshini but he had to.

He walked into the living room and noticed that something was new in the house hold. First of all he could smell home cooked food that actually gave off a desirable aroma unlike when Prithiv bhaiyya cooked. And definitely it was not Sameer, as he couldn't even make one-minute noodles to save his life!!

He made his way to his room to settle down when he heard the back door creaking open. His head shot up to hear movement on the first floor. He grabbed his cell phone and a bat that was in his closet and made his way down to see who the intruder was. With Sameer being a police officer - they were in the bad books of many people. His hands became slippery as he was sweating propounding. He could hear his heart beating in the quiet atmosphere. One minute he wanted to face the intruder but the next minute his brain was telling to call his bhaiyya for help. He took in a deep breath repeating the first few lines of Hanuman Chalisa that he knew and cursed himself for not paying attention during prayers time like Sameer bhaiyya did. He saw a figure moving into the kitchen and very slowly he made his way to the entrance of the kitchen and raised his bat ready to hit the intruder with all the force he had.
