Hello. I'm in a happy mood today and so thought of writing one of these again 😊
First of all, white shirt + blue jeans is the ultimate combination for me.... works for me absolutely, everytime, anytime.... i can even like Kishan kumar in it.... toh Gaurav toh phir bhi Kishan kumar se thoda better hai.... so that just added to my happiness in life :).... though i wish they'd let us hear what he was listening to....
Well the students are preparing the faculty for the test.... and thankfully there were no stereotypical tribal rituals this time around.... and the Aalekh Abhimanyu scene was nice.... i like male bonding in lrl.... its a nice change to see a world where men are friends, mentors, competitive and insecure about each other (men after all 😉 😆)..... and this scene was a nice example of that.... its also interesting that it is Aalekh who is teaching Abhimanyu a way to relax.... one would have thought it would be the other way round.... but then perhaps its the people who see more stress who know better how to de-stress.
Then the 'really bad shade of green drink' scene starts.... ok, confession time... when i saw the green drink scene in the trailer, i was very very skeptical.... had less than zero expectations..... but mr/ms dialogue writer, script writer, take a bow.... i never thought they would explain that this could be a test of endurance.... but they did.... and the reference to the Cold War, while an exxageration, was still believable.... partly because it immediately provided a wider, popular context to the situation..... of spy thrillers, moves and counter moves.... that every self-respecting James Bond fan would know... almost all the lines were better than they have been for the past two weeks.... i hope this augurs well for the future and means that the show is getting back on track!
Today, i thought everyone did the scene well... their reactions to the drink were individual ie varied from the others'..... which makes me think of something i've always wondered... how is it that people always do disgust or dislike well?.... does being disgusted come that naturally to all of us?
Also, this scene was interesting because the actor's movement was limited in certain ways..... cannot stand, cannot move... focus more or less on the face.... and for an actor like Gaurav thats both a bonus and a limitation.... i've always felt that he never disappoints in close ups.... that he uses his face very well.... and this becomes more easily visible in such a scene.... but at the same time, it limits the things one can do..... anyway, he did his usual competent job... and i thought that the smile when both he and Capt Rajveer finish their drinks was a good touch.... the concern and the question expressed through the one word 'Raj?'.... as i said, usual and competent. :)
Finally, i too want to complain about Major Nair.... i've seen this guy elsewhere.... and i really did not expect such monotonous, cardboard till it gets on my nerves acting from him.... cannot blame only the guy though... i have no clue why Major Nair is the way he is.... for a show with such well rounded characters, its main villain is surprisingly one dimensional.... he's a villain and thats it.... and that limits whatever potential he may have brought to the role.
Thats it.... Hope the show continues with its new found sense of direction tomo.... if it does, then it will be doing a good job within its own format, its own framework.
