Hi there. This is delayed by a day since i had a deadline. Also, on Fridays i tend to laze off becuase i know i have the next three days to do it in. š
Again, not a lot of scenes of Gaurav. Are they saving his role for when they release the DVD version of lrl? Ok I'm irritated but i'll get to the point.
It begins with him logically deducing that they (whoever they are) must have received the red box as wedding gift. Charming scene, well done. I know that both lirh and Shweta are drooling over the look he gave her when she said 'khone ko toh kuch bhi nahi hai' for the second time... he gave her a once over with his eyes aur yahan yeh dono gaye kaam se!! Well Gaurav pe fida ho gaye toh there really is nothing to lose.... but your hearts... and possibly your sleep...and certainly your peace of mind.... and very definitely your sanity š
Waise i liked the dialogue 'bhagwan se seedha red box maang leta toh wohi cycle pe aa jaata'... But again that 'kya cycle chalate hai aap' with the hand in the air was very AB... not deliberately so... just incidentally... i liked the smiling little looks she kept giving him... at the risk of unleashing the wrath of both RN and Gaurav fans, dare i read the beginning of chemistry?!... when he offers to repair the cycle, again very naturally done.
Phir hamare prince cycle bhi repair kar lete hai... arrey, kaise nahi aayega... hero jo hai... aur rajmahal mein yahi toh karte the roz... (repairing) a cycle a day keeps the doctor away!! (Ok do not mind the abyssmally low humour... i heard good news on a phone call while posting and i'm happy!)
Another question: Prince ji ke white mufflers kaun dhota hai?... grease ke daag kabhi jaate nahi... but remember 'agar kuch achcha karte hue daag lag jaaye, toh daag achche hai!' (Teena you're the only one who would have found this funny... my apologies for existing to the rest of the world!)
Incidentally, a red box is supposed to be indestructible, isnt it? Or is that a black box i am thinking about? Anyway, this is definitely not indestructible from any angle... methinks the box is a little too big...
Incidentally, (no this is not my fav word of the english langauge, but comes close!) i didnt know this show had Aly Khan.... what has happened to the guy?... i remember thinking him quite competent in Hubahu... cocky but then the role asked for a certain kind of cockiness... and then watching him in something else where the arrogance was still present but completely unnecessary and therefore losing interest.... but here?? doing this??
Personal confession: Of all the other cadets, i like Yudi the most.... its not so much his acting as the goofiness of the character that appeals to me... give me that over normalcy any day, though normalcy is perhaps most difficult to show on screen.
In the scene where they see Rajeev outside the door, i again thought he varied the tone well... the 'you found the red box right? where is it?' was friendly... it was his usual tone with Rajeev... then as the box was being carried out the 'is this the red box' was more serious... there was an immediate realisation that there was a major problem... i have to admit that when he asked 'kya yeh red box hai?' this crossed my mind 'isko kaise pata chalega, yeh red thode hi hai'... achcha i'll leave the bad jokes aside and come back to what i was saying...
Also it was interesting to note how he held her hand, to prevent her from touching the box (i almost wrote the coffin, thats how i keep thinking of it)... since even touching it is an 'offence'... he did not have to see where her hand was to hold it... this is an indication of interest, at least in my book... when you pay attention to someone's conversation, know where he/she is in a crowded room, know instinctively where their hands (or whatever!) are -- all of these are indications of interest. I dont know if AN will happen or not but it is definitely a multi layered relationship.... not simply a teacher-student or a friendly one.
What i also found interesting in this scene was that Rajeev was talking to Abhimanyu... while Naina was screaming, he said 'Raj' in a questioning tone and Rajeev then started to explain what had happened... because Abhimanyu is his friend, he is in the army set up and would understand... and Abhimanyu does... he turned around and did that gesture with his hands, as if saying 'why? who the hell are they to post spies on you? what nonsense'... ok, the 'what nonsense' is something i would say, but the gesture expressed frustration but also sympathy for Rajeev and anger with the system... but it became less visible because Naina had started screaming by then and the focus of the scene had shifted to RN...
After that, Gaurav expressed his distress by rubbing his head and then looking away from it... as if 'i cant stop you from feeling the way you are feeling but at the same time i do not want to see you do this to him'... at this point, it is most frustrating to not know what his attitude to the death of Naveen is... he understands Naina's anger, pain and frustration... but does he understand Rajeev as well? Or not? It becomes more difficult to make sense of the scene if one does not know where he is located.
Finally, i liked the way he turned his head and looked at Naina when she said 'Naveen bhaiya aapke dost the na, phir bhi aap ne'... he looked shocked yet resigned... and when she said 'stop interfering in my life', there was a slight hint of rebuke... not overtly so but more a sense of 'i wish you hadnt said that'...
Also when Babuji/Daddyji appeared on the scene, Abhimanyu and Rajeev looked at each other... in the sense of 'what is going to happen now? how is this going to change the situation?'.... they still turn to each other for conversation and answers.... thats my idea of friendship!!
Now I'm off for the weekend... back on Monday. š
