On the face of it ,it's a bit of a sexist bias , as pointed out by bart.. totally gender based.. in this day and age..
The quote to me, also touches the age old desire of a male that when it comes to the female in his life ,he has to be the first male in her life.Where as, for her being the last in his life, spells rather alarmingly that he has been around and eventually settled with her. So yes it does seem to give him greater allowances over her.Dickens was a product of the Victorian era where women were expected to be images of piety and chastity..
Now if we look at the quote in terms of Tasha, in the literal sense yes it is applicable.Story wise, he is the first man in her; and for him she the ultimate woman in his life.
Nevertheless, I would prefer to take out the gender issue and see the quote as applied to two individuals, who celebrate a bond that began with, silent admiration that grew into friend ship.Later on the individuals shared many emotional highs and lows in their experiences,till the point they discover unanimously, that they wished to spend their life with each other forever..So yes for Nakusha he was the challenging individual who made her discover many of her own inner strengths; and for Dutta she was the individual who taught him the purpose of life.

True lasting love matters...the rule is the same for men or women.

IMO Tasha Rocks because both DSP and Naku were the only love of each other.
Seema was an infatuation and Sups was forced on to Dutta by AS, Naku and God knows who else.
