~Dutta in the presence of 4 females may appear isolated in LTL1.. in Baji we see that this isolated ,distant Dutta has a friend.
~there are two other males in the household ,Kishore and Suds, but Dutta only has a male bonding with Baji..
~ within the walls of PN ,Baji is the man who can see or rather allowed to see Dutta's turmoil..
~ it is through Baji we see the softness of tone and expression in Dutta, almost a dark humour ;"roothe hoi biwi" dialouge.
~ Baji is the only pure character in a story of lies, deceit, and revenge!
Baji's friendship with Dutta is pure and honest .. and therefore contrasts with the theme of revenge and deception...
yes LTL 1 would be incomplete without the two halves that make a whole Baji/Dutta..

I think the excuse the writers used for Baji not allowing Naku to show her true colour...was not logic...not for me anyway...I did not really understand Baji's fear here.

I do understand what your are saying...that Baji did not want Dutta to loose the person that loved him more than life itself...but how could Baji be sure that Dutta would loose Naku...I believe that Dutta would have understood and would have had respect for Naku for telling the true.

Now to answer the last question, why he felt bad hearing that snake remark...
possibly because his loyalty is questioned..and the fact is he has been there for so long ...part of them and their problems...through thick and thin ...and naturally you would feel bad when family...says a word or two in doubt...he did it out of love and then suddenly there is someone planting such a thought that he may be unfaithful...
