Sumit Kaul had lost all hopes of making a career in acting but then things started looking up for him.

It wasn't an overnight success as the actor had to struggle to reach where he is today. It took a renowned film maker like Vishal Bharadwaj to re-instill faith in Kaul. It was during his struggling phase that Bharadwaj's one statement. 'The first step to success is having no option but to succeed' changed Sumit's complete outlook. His family is into the export business and he always had it as an option to fall back upon. However, he decided to make a mark on his own. The actor is still in touch with the director. "We are competitors on the tennis court, but off it he is my guiding star," says Sumit.
