I love flawed characters. I really really love them. All things dark and flawed appeal to me. Which is why, Dutta is addictive. There's this darkness, this inexplicable sorrow about him. There's something soul-stirring about him.
He's got his own set of flaws. He's hotheaded. Acts without thinking. Cannot stand lies or betrayal. And yet every person in his life is out to cheat him, one way or the other. He has his own set of prejudices, thanks to his upbringing, his lost past, and his "unlucky at love" fate. He is more often than not, oblivious to others' pain. Not that he's heartless, just that he can't see beyond his pain. When AS hid DPs truth from him, all he could think about was her betrayal, not her pain. He loves Naku to distraction, but doesn't really know her. He has been so caught up in his own sorrow to read the pain in her eyes. He is insecure. All his anger stems from his insecurity. For him, it's almost like he doesn't deserve to be loved for himself. He sees himself as this person beyond redemption.
Naku. It's amazing how different they are, and yet this character is similar to Dutta's. She is not the master of her own fate. She has a heart and a face that could get her every good thing in life. And yet, her circumstances force her to lead a life that would have broken anyone weaker than her. She's got spirit. Inspite of her tears and naivety, she's tough. She almost landed in More's evil web, but her destiny intervened. She became Dutta's friend, his estranged wife, and is now his life. She's seen almost as much pain as Dutta. While all the negativity has hardened Dutta on the outside, it's broken him on the inside. At the same time, Naku's emerged unfazed, she remains untouched. She might appear weak on the outside, but inside she possesses that moral courage Dutta lacks. She believes in people, even those who hurt her. While she is good, she is also ready to lie, or even hide a truth if it means saving someone's life. She'll readily give up her life, or even stand up without batting an eyelid for the people she loves. Her principles don't necessarily make her righteous, she always does what she believes is right in the situation. For it's people she believes in, not principles. She's easily manipulated by people, the evil ones, but somehow her faith has always kept her safe. Her faith has moved mountains. Well, it has moved Dutta, hasn't it?
It's amazing how these characters, inspite of being so flawed are perfect for each other. They aren't just gonna complete each other, they're gonna share each other's completeness. Dutta believes that beauty equals betrayal. Hence it was necessary for him to love the dark Naku first, without knowing her truth. If she had told him the truth, and he'd slowly come to terms with it, half of the fun would've been lost. Now that she's altered his life and lifted him out of one of the worst spells of his life, he needs to decide. Her keeping this secret from him, does that make her a traitor? Does that make her the same as Seema and Supriya? Now is when all his preconceived notions will bite the dust. Now is when he learns that it's not always about him. When he finds out that Nakusha's hidden her life under a layer of soot, silently borne all the taunts inspite of being dazzlingly beautiful, he'll have to question himself. He'll slowly realize that pain isn't always what you express, sometimes the sacrifice you make to see someone happy is far far beautiful. He will have to look into his heart and decide if she is true or not. While he's always told her why he's loved her, now he'll have to ask himself if she's worthy of the trust, if he's worthy of the silent love she's always bestowed on him!
Nakusha believes that her beauty is her curse. She's always had something bad happen to her whenever she revealed her face. Every man who's seen her beauty has wanted to harm her, make her his. And hence she lived the life of someone ugly and unwanted. And that is why, Dutta loving her the way she was, respecting her altered all her notions. She fell in love with him because he treated her like a lady, even when she was invisible to the rest. She found a man who loves her deeply, and looks at her as if she's the most beautiful woman in the world, even when she's sporting a thick layer of soot, and wearing her rags. This is the most pleasant surprise she's ever received. The answer to her faith. And now, her beauty's again gonna prove a curse, coz she knows that D's gonna hate her once the soot comes off. Now is the test of her love. It is only Dutta's love that can finally make her realize that her beauty doesn't have anything to do with love. He has to see her goodness that shines through.
And so we have a match that is flawless. Am waiting for them to slowly heal each other, my flawed diamonds!!
