IN HER OWN SKIN
POPULARLY TAGGED AS 'NAKU' THANKS TO HER TV SHOW, MAHHI VIJ IS GENTLE AND DOWN-TO- EARTH DESPITE HER RISING STARDOM, FINDS PURNIMA GOSWAMI SHARMA
"I grew up in Delhi so I am used to spacious homes with verandas and terraces, but I realised it is difficult to find that in Mumbai homes. I have been living in Lokhandwala for the past six years and I am happy that my home has a balcony! Since I have three dogs, the open space becomes a necessity to facilitate their movement," explains Vij. She fondly recounts her childhood days in Delhi by reminsing about the chaat and dahi bhale sold on the streets. Mahhi currently resides with her parents in Mumbai and her first brush with fame came through initial modelling assignments, music videos and South Indian films.
"I lead a pretty comfortable life with my family. After a hectic day at the sets, I usually unwind with my family and my pets," she explains. She also finds it convenient to reside in Lokhandwala since her designer Roopa Sharma lives in the vicinity and also small luxuries like her salon, gym, bank, doctor's clinic, jewellery showrooms, cinema halls are closely located. "Options is a good place for Indian wear and I enjoy morning walks and fresh juices at the Lokhandwala back road. I often indulge in the street kulfis sold during the night." Mahhi also savours the food in the area. "I love Aromas of China, Red Box and Mainland China and I am fond of pastries at Taj's Birdys."
On the personal front, Mahhi is content. Her recent engagement to actor Jay Bhanushali has her glowing and she usually likes catching up with him at home, since they both love "ghar ka khaana". Another favourite date spot for them is Fanoos, where they are often seen.
Professionally, too, Mahhi is finally settled with her role as the dark and ugly Nakusha. "Initially I was apprehensive to do such an unglamorous role and was scared of being typecast, but the quality of the work has given me much satisfaction and the challenges in my role have met with appreciation from fans and in turn has helped boost my confidence," she ends.
