I think he's not realizing how hard his decision actually is to follow. He likes Naku..maybe not loves her at this point in time as a wife, but he definitely loved her at one point in time as a friend. He always thought about her and looked out for her welfare. He is so confused right now, but I don't think that its too unbelievable for him to see Naku this strong. She never has complained in front of him about anything, so for her to return his chain (aka MS) to him is something that I'm very glad that Naku did because it tells him that her life doesn't revolve around his (even though it does) but it gives him less power and that's what I think he is having a hard time dealing with. He's lost all control over the situation where as before he had all teh control.
