Tulsi Ko Gussa Kyo Aata Hai?
Come 10.30 P.M. and every house in India sings the theme to Kyon Ki… just as everyone sings the Gayatri Mantra at the break of dawn. It all started about two years back when Ekta Kapoor, daughter of Bollywood's Jumping Jack Jeetendra (Wow that's a triple J) jumped up and ventured into the small screen. So far so good… she laid the foundation of her mega serial and left the rest on the strong broad shoulders of the magnificent TULSI. The serial leisurely moves on, and somewhere around the 500th episode (at least it seems so) Tulsi is married to the 1st Mihir Virani, Amar Upadhyay (A.U.).
Everything was going fine - Tulsi was happily married to Mihir; Mihir was running the Virani Group of Industries with stupendous success. Tulsi was having her share of customary quarrels with her Saas when all of a sudden a national calamity strikes… MIHIR VIRANI DIES in a road mishap. The whole nation is shocked, devastated, taken aback, blah blah. The Prime Minister, Mr. A.B.Vajpayee announces a national mourning in the loving memory of none other than Mr. M.V. All the newspapers carry headlines blaming Ekta Kapoor for being a national antagonist and killing our household-hero. Even Sunny Deol came down heavily on her, threatening that he would very soon make a new movie - The Return Of The Hero, in which the Balaji Telefilms office will be shown as a hide-out of terrorists, which he will destroy himself. In the midst of all this commotion, Mrs. T.V. was bursting with anger and into tears that her husband had died and that she deserved all the attention, sympathy and not some bygone and now long gone character. So every time she went on screen she would cry. Only this time it came naturally to her with A.U. hogging all the gossip columns.
Ekta Kapoor sprang into action…trying all sorts of tactics… bringing a new love in Tulsi's life, Anupam Kapadia alias Aman Verma. Slowly but surely the nation was getting over the calamity and Tulsi started to get her share of fame back. Just then Ekta's grandmother calls her up and threatens her to bring the pride of the nation viz., A. U. back OR ELSE! Ekta is left with no choice but to bring him back. Once again Tulsi is perturbed … "Oh No! I'll lose my small screen glory again with that Amar back on screen." She turns hysterical, even threatens to leave the show but the shrewd Kapoor calms her down with just two sentences, "Once a Parvati… Always a Parvati and Once a Tulsi… well... Dear, no one will ever accept you as somebody else's wife." Tulsi's hopes are punctured like a flat tyre. But just as the news of Amar's arrival is featured, so is his departure news. J.P.Dutta called him for national duty on the LoC. And there went Ekta's weapon of defence.
Tulsi's joy knew no bounds. The 2nd M.V. aka Mr. Inder Kumar had come in. Tulsi was overjoyed… the chemistry between No. 2 and her was not working and all the focus was finally shifting to her. But alas, this happiness was short lived. Every Indian started shouting, -"We want a Revolution, We want Mihir, We want Mihir (A.U.) " Now Tulsi was pulling her hair off and shouting on top of her voice "This is a serial of a Bahu and her Saas, just leave the son out of it."
Ekta Kapoor did something which no other producer had dared to do in the history of Tellywood, she fast forwarded the Virani Parivar life 20 years making 'Ba' the oldest living person in reel life at 120 years and still rocking. Though the Amar episode seemed to die down… after some 10,000 or so episodes M.V. No.3 had to be brought in, so that the chemistry between Tulsi and Mihir could be revived. So in came, the desi look alike 007 James Bond – Ronit Roy. Tulsi was getting crazier by the minute… "How many husbands do I have to change? What's going to happen to my dedicated-wife image? Who will want me to star in any mega soap opera? My telly-life is ruined."
But she was in for a surprise… Mihir Bond is a real 007; he lets the female have their share of limelight. And he is better than the real 007… he can not only handle two women at a time (Mandira & Tulsi) but also their children. But even this did not satisfy Tulsi. " How will the Indian society accept such kind of culture? I cannot stand this… it will again shift the focus on Mihir Virani. I simply want Mihir out of my life. I am giving him a Divorce and will start a new life with my son Gautam Virani and Tisha Bahu. But then I can't be an all goody-goody MIL; I'll have to be the bad MIL to get all that attention. Oh my God what have I got myself into…this is a real mess. HELP!"
And from that day she has always been crying "Boo Hoo" in every episode of KSBKBT. At the same time the Big Kapoor of Tellywood was in Hollywood signing Julia Roberts for a 50,000 episode of the English version of the epic mega serial, 'Because MIL was once DIL…' as Tulsi Virani. And this time she didn't want to take any risks with M.V., so she signed the JJJ Jr.- Tushar Kapoor as M.V.
Back in India Tulsi went completely nuts on not being signed for the English version of the mega serial and she had to be hospitalised. That it was the same hospital as Mandira and that's what we call a filmi coincidence.
Meanwhile, the doctors have hired the FBI to close in on Mr. M.V. alias A.U. who is responsible for the tragic triggering effect that his departure created.
Oh God! Please Give Tulsi her share of fame and glory...boo hoo...!
