Ketki Dave's missing from Kyunki Saas bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. The actress has opted out of the show a second time. Ketki had quit Kyunki in 2001 at a time when her character Dakshaben was very popular. She returned to the show last year. However, past few months, her character was going nowhere. "I'd been telling them since October that I wasn't doing much. Daksha was becoming a senseless character. I told them if you've brought me back then use me well. No doubt you are paying me a lot but I feel I'm not doing enough. In January I shot for one day and stopped after that. I have a body of work and I don't want one role to affect my work over the years." Talking about the time when she returned to the show, Ketki says, "I was brought back at a point when I was needed. I wanted to enjoy my role. I loved it initially, but soon there was nothing for me to do. I felt used." Of course, there are no hard feelings with the production house, the parting's been amicable, she says. "Kyunki is a show that will go on, no matter who quits and goes. It doesn't make a difference." Ketki feels strongly about the current situation where actors are suffering. "It's the same with all production houses. An actor is promised a meaty role, but somewhere down the line his role could become insignificant. That happens for TRPs! I really want to know who decides these TRPs. There's nothing an actor can do because he's bound by a contract. It's really sad. Production houses are powerful and even more powerful are the channels." Meanwhile, Ketki's looking forward to a new show where she has an interesting role. "I can't reveal much. Right now the role is very good. I don't know about the future," she laughs. On a serious note, she says, "I love acting and I want to do good work on TV as well as in films." |
