The Tulsi of small screen will produce and act in a Marathi film
Going vernacular: Smriti Iraani
You've watched her charm the audience on the small screen. Now brace yourself to watch Smriti Iraani on the big screen!
The telly actress, who holds regional cinema in high regard, has decided to produce a social drama, to be directed by acclaimed Marathi director Pramod Prabhulkar.
New venture
Talking about her latest venture she says, "I recently shot an ad film with Pramod and was quite impressed with his work. He has directed a couple of Marathi films like Gaod Gupit with Dilip Prabhawalkar and Ganpya Gavde with Bharat Jadhav. In fact, I hve watched some of them and liked what I saw."
The project doesn't have a working title yet, but Smriti is all excited about it. "I was initially offered a Bengali film as well. But things didn't work out. So this will be my foray into regional cinema," says the actress.
Elaborating on the subject, she says, "It will be a social drama that tells a heart warming story. I will have to work on my Marathi dialect for the role."
Mutual admiration
Professional that Iraani is, she will start work on the film once she reads the bound script. Smriti can't stop praising director Pramod. She says, "Both he and his wife Madhurani who's an actress are highly passionate about their work. Pramod's work and his ideas and techniques are impressive."
Pramod is thrilled to get an opportunity to work with Smriti. "We have a common vision and our wavelength matches. While working on my ad film with her, I realised that despite being so busy and multi-tasking all the time, Smriti always has an ear for a good concept or an idea," says he.
About the film, he says, "I will be busy working on the script during the Ganesh festivals, and once that gets done with we will figure out when to start shooting."
