"I know taking over as Tulsi is a huge responsibility. I'm aware that Kyunkii… is watched not just in India but the world-over. But this was just the challenge I was looking for at this stage of my life. I know I'm under pressure. But I know my responsibilities as an actress. And I love my job," she says. Gautami confesses that she is not overly ambitious. She says, "So far I took on whatever came my way. But now I have reached a stage where I feel stagnant playing wife and mother at home. I took a break to look after my daughter Siya who turns one on June 12. If nothing else this break helped me realise how I enjoy my work. Tulsi is as big as it gets, if I say so myself." For the last six months, Gautami has been meeting various TV producers. "Honestly, I was so keen to get back to work I wouldn't have minded doing even a parallel role." Gautami's last serial was Lipstick on Zee. "And even there I had replaced Shveta Salve. Can you believe it? I'm quite a replacement girl. But replacing Smriti Irani as Tulsi is a huge responsibility. My mother, who's an avid Kyunki fan hasn't missed a single episode. She's very excited for me. But sadly for her, as I'm sure for women across the world, Tulsi is Smriti," she says. Gautami understands that there's an uphill task ahead. She emphasises, "Smriti created this whole graph for the character. I won't even dare to go there. I'll play Tulsi my own way. I'm a spontaneous actress. Fortunately the creative team at Balaji has given me the liberty to play Tulsi my way. They don't want me to ape anybody. In fact, if I had been told to follow Smriti I'd have refused the role." Gautami began paying attention to Kyunki… when she heard she might be coming on as Tulsi. "When Ekta met me the first time she didn't tell me I was being considered to play Tulsi," she says. However, Gautami laid down one condition before consenting to play Tulsi. "With a baby at home I need flexibility. Once Ekta agreed to that, there was no hitch. My mother and mother-in-law will take care of my daughter…. I wanted this challenge to happen. It's scary. But I'm ecstatic that this has happened to me. So's my husband Ram. He has been egging me on to take on a good show. Trust me, he won't be playing Mihir opposite my Tulsi. He has no time," she jokes. Is she nervous about her entry in the show this Thursday? Gautami says, "I'll take it one day at a time. The look is the same for me as it was for Smriti. I'll have the grey hair, the saris…Tulsi can't come back with a different get-up. As it is audiences will have to get used to a new face and body. I'm prepared to take the criticism. If the love and adulation follows, fabulous! And if people on the streets start referring to me instead of Smriti as Tusli then that would be a great achievement for me."

gautami is having too many high hopes and dreams. i don't beleive people will call gautami tulsi 😕 😆 gautami doesn't have a strong personality as smriti. 😳 i don't understand why gautami was so excited to play smriti's character? 😕 no wonder lipstick ended because shweta salve was brilliant with her role and gautami just ruined it. she should come with a fresh role rather than replacement 😆 somehow i have a feeling gautami later won't be tulsi. you know with twists 😳 😆

i hav the same feeling..and im sure its gonna be that way...we're so intelligent wen it comes to ekta serials...😆

😆😆true..i think gautami will be one of the ladies who were in the truck. i just hope it happens this way😛

loll😆strange thing was even her husband was over the top😕i was like u guys have no idea what trouble gautami has stepped in😆if gautami was playing a different character then i would be little excited but giving tulsi role is too huge. smriti has change television serial. even how crappy the storyline is, it's still number one. i know she was getting annoyed but because of the track. i wanted to see strong tulsi as she was before the leap😳

kyunki is ruined......like again tht stupid face surgery thing GOSH sick of this old STUFF...n one more thing Gautami is soo thin....and smiti is fat...WAT A MATCH tht stupid kekta had made......

haha😆i know. she was too confident😕😆i was like you are not even close to smriti, smriti is so natural and so graceful. i didn't like gautami reaction, she behaved like oh wow i snatched smriti role🤢i didn't like that at all😡waiting for more news.

i noticed that too and honestly it doesn't sound kiyunke anymore. gautami doesn't have that charm. does any1 has the feedback email address of kiyunke. im going to send them many email😆
