ummmm......i tend to disagree with you jeebun. i agree that the show has a way of going overboard but it is probably one of the most realistic shows on the tv. i also agree that we seem to have advanced and ended up on mars and moon but humans are still quite primitive in more ways than one. there is an old saying "more the things change , more they remain the same".
what we have is a mixture of darkness and greatness of humanity. ego trips, family politics, greed lies, abuse is not as farfetched as it seems. in fact if you take a hard and candid look at your own life , you will find that almost all of us are guilty of these crimes to some extent. if you think about the indian epics mahabharat and ramayana ....it will disgust you to no ends...but they are the true depictions of human evil and greed.
as for the children...i get worried too at times but then i think that it is impossible to protect them from all the dirt around. they are aware of extrra marital affairs, rapes, sex, murders from a very young age .and it just not media alone. how do you protect your kid from the fact that there was a shooting in his school or that his classmate was raped on the way back home or one of the nieghbours seem to indulge in extramarital relationships, his best friend's parents just got divorced....etc etc.. probably we should revise our stands and instead of protecting them, educate them on human frailties and help them make the right choices. this might seem a little farfetched but i find the impression left by shows like jjkn (anything is fair in love as it is highest form of human emotions apparently) almost as dangerous or more dangerous than those left by ekta shows on the teenager. atleast it is easy to explain the futility and the pain associated with ugly human emotions and acts(abuse, rapes, revenge) but how do you explain to your kids that following dreams indiscriminately is just as dangerous or there are things more important than love or life is not a fair game /fairytale like .
now for how tulsi can bear so much.....i guess you have no idea how joint families in india operate or how selfless women have to be to survive in an environment like that.personally i believe in characters like her(okay she is too perfect but someone like her) bcoz i know many people who have been in positions like her....fighting battles alone and still getting no credit for it.
