chakravyuhya was a millitary strategy used in ancient wars....the soldiers were positioned in a circular maze like formation (hence the name). the enemy was allowed to enter but more than often he would get disoriented in the circular formation and would not be able to exit . it was almost impossible to break the formation but apparently there was a trick to breaking it (arjun in mahabharat exceled in the technique of entering and exiting). his son abhimanyou knew only half of it...and at a certain desperate moment in war was forced to enter the formation ...it is said while he sucessfully reached the centre/vortex but was unable to exit and lost his life)....hope that helps.
