One of the toughest Qs I have to answer this week was to write a poem On MY Amitabh Bachchan. The totally non-poetic variety that I am, knew one thing as soon as I saw the Question, a line would be

"The Sun, the Moon and the Amitabh Bachchan"

So I started

The Sun, the source of life and energy on Mother Earth

The Moon, giving us a nights rest and love

And the Amitabh Bachchan, the charisma, the role model, My Idol

I never could get any further. So decided to try narrating his life incident

Born in Allahabad

Educated at the prestigious Doon (He studied in Doon School, Dehradun)

Rejected by the AIR (He had tried his hands at anchoring for All India Radio)

And again I was struck at Line 3….

Is that my jinked line?

As I tried singing it in various tunes, I added Ollaaa olla, oolla la la (twice)

It sounded nice

B o r n in Allahabad

E d u c a t e d at the prestigious Doon

R e j e c t e d by the AIR

Olla,la la , Olla la la

Olla la la la

Suddenly I was grinning from ear to ear.

Lines 9 and 10 would be the same too. So I just had 3 more lines.

In a few minutes, involuntarily I saw a crowd of people around me. All from IF with tomatoes in their hand. Some had just one in each hand. Some had a handful. I could seem some tall ones even juggling around with deep red rounded tomatoes.

From the corner of my eye, I tried to catch a friend and ask whats up? But I could hear "Ollaaa olla, oolla la la".

In a final act of desperation, I abandoned my chosen language and looked for some hindi lyrics in which I could play around. But none was good enough for my AB.

Finally I said why not try Kannada (A language spoken in Southern India). There would only be a handful of them who understand. I could bribe Sree, Cute, Deepa and anybody else who understood that for a milk waali coffee. But somehow decide I wouldn't bribe. They were loyal fans of AB and wouldn't give into milk waali coffee.

So I abandoned the idea. Ab app log batav?? Do you still have tomatoes? Or have you laughed so much that you dropped them.

PS: Next time when somebody asks me for a embarrassing incident, I'll mention this

It was 42 deg celcius

The sun blazing hot

Suddenly, the director shouted "Lights, camera, Action"

Something burnt up.

The arid conditions and the heat was burning them all up

Then the junior actor,

Threw a tantrum

Ice-creams, cool drinks were of no help

Every two minutes, he erupted like a volcano

Shade and cool drinks just melted away.

Suddenly, the man realised, well where is big B?

He saw AB, sitting in a corner with no shade over his head

They had to pretend its snowing and he was all greasy with make up

He did not even remove his blanket covering him from head to toe.

The artist went up to him and said "Sir, how can you manage?"

That is acting my dear boy, said AB

Pretend its snowing and the camera is still looking at you

The artist cooled down from head to toe

Suddenly there was no perspiration

Now he knew where the greatness came from

That's my Amitabh Bachchan

This (if it can be called a poem) is based on a true life incident. In the midst of Rajasthan, AB and another artist had a scene, where they had to pretend its snowing. When they were all set, there was a technical error, and the artists had to wait with all costumes. One artist experienced the greatness of AB that day

Lekin I believe you naa🤗... Both compositions were a delight to read... The first one was extremely creative and so amusing and the second one was inspirational and thoughful... I was really touched while reading it.... I think you may have a future working on the side as a poet or some type of writer like me😉😆😆
