Would have been a far better show perhaps than to show he’s such a catch that even as a grandfather he has women who would chase after him.

Alas… we have to have lots of bawling Tulsi for the TRPs…. Because heaven forbid if an Indian TV show can work without the main leading lady having to cry her heart out almost every week.

Indian TV thrives on making the female lead cry. They cannot be happy or smart ever. If she's educated, she's automatically elected to become a vamp.

Yk this wasn't the scene back in the 2000s .. All the FLs were normal human then.. Yes they did weird stuffs for the sake of drama but they weren't doormats.. They were smart, educated n happy too in their lives..

Forget 2000s even 10 yrs back FLs weren't like this that are shown nowadays.. For eg. Sandhya, Sonakshi, Annika, Zoya, Mauli and many others..

I genuinely can’t remember a single strong and efficient male character ever since Ekta started her shows tbh. Before we had shows which balanced characters and the emphasis on who was right or wrong was not determined by who was a man or a woman but by the story. Mandira Bedi for example played a strong female character in a show called Shanti where the main antagonist were men, there were shows that dealt with such variety of issues and which appealed to different age groups. Now it’s all gone. For a Saans or Kora Kaagaz back then you had a Hip Hip Hurray or Banegi Apni Baat while kids got Son Pari, Hatim and the likes.

I don’t know of a single show now that’s made for kids or teenagers. TBH, I feel really sad for them.

Now every show ends up being a saas bahu one if it intends to last and men are sidelined as being simply there no more than props. I miss strong male characters that allowed stories to seem organic regardless of what side of the fence they were on, equally I miss strong female characters who had self-respect more than anything else. Probably the last show which had a female character with some self respect and who emerged strong regardless of what hardships she went through was the lead of a show called Chhoti Si Asha on Sony. I adore how that show ended now even though it’s heartbreaking because it’s a million times better than anything on TV in the last couple of decades tbh.

The worst part isn’t even that she’s a vamp, if she’s smart or educated or modern.. it’s that her sole focus is a man. Everything she does is for a man. Like girl, be evil for yourself if that’s what floats your boat. Do it just because you enjoy it, because you wanna make money or have power or because you’re an utter narcissist or a sociopath or whatever. But NOOO, it has to be about a man, ALWAYS. That’s the bummer. Do it for your business, because you wanna get ahead in life no matter what. Anything but not because you want a guy.

Honestly I wouldn’t mind a show where the main character herself is grey if her actions are not all about a man.

Ikr. 2010-2020 was a decent era compared to the clownery happening these days. My favourite would be Swadheenta from Dahleez, damn she's the one of the strongest FLs I know. No unnecessary rona-dhona or becoming mahanta ka murat.

She stood her ground & fought for what was right. It's a pity that there's no such FLs these days or even shows. :(

@b: exactly !! Aaj kal toh educated hona hi vamp barabar hogayi hai... Like do backward people need more incentive for not educating their girls ? Ugh.

Unfortunately it seems that cringe is now the only thing that the people making shows care about. They know the more dumb a show, the more ridiculous and OTT they go, the higher the chances of it getting hyped up on the social media.

It’s exhausting and annoying because everything is the same with just different names and costumes. Unlike the west where there’s such a huge variety of content that you find something that appeals to your tastes regardless of what your preferences are and which genres you enjoy. Here there’s not even a second genre.

If only Indian OTT platforms had more budget and more Indian content, Indian TV channels would probably be out of business.

Exactly! Her obsession is always with a man, and not even a good one at that. He's already an idiot who can't keep his wife/girlfriend/fiancée happy. So why would you commit yourself to someone like that, for God's sake?

She’s completely obsessed with the idea of doing everything for his affection, and I'm like 😒—leave him be! Base your affections on someone who can actually return them. Do something that makes you happy, something that floats your boat. Your world doesn't have to revolve around a man, especially not one who doesn’t respect your advances. Learn to accept "No."

You know, that’s also something I dislike—if he says no, you need to respect that. If we expect guys to accept our “no,” we should respect their consent too. Why the zabardasti topna?

@b: I would love to see that kind of show too. If Maya (from Beyhadh) wasn’t so obsessed with Arjun and did something for herself, I honestly would have totally cheered for her.

Exactly; the obsession doesn’t even stem from the guy being some kind of Greek God material, some kind of achiever who you would want to be seen with as a partner even if as merely a status symbol. It’s mostly an average looking bloke who always dresses up in suits heading for important meetings for an imaginary business empire that he runs which is never specified as specialising in any specific business sector. And chances are he’s already married/engaged/dating someone else already and sometimes a father or a grandfather as is the case here!

You don’t even understand why this girl is losing her mind over him! Like girl, look around, there’s plenty of blokes out there! Have some self-respect, dignity at least. It’s as if he’s the last man alive on planet earth and if she doesn’t get her chance with him humanity will cease to exist.

Even simple common sense dictates that if a guy is willing to cheat on another woman with you, he will cheat on you too with someone else one day. And if he’s not interested in you then there’s no point in chasing him for some ego trip because what’s the point of trapping him in a relationship even if you succeed somehow, if he’s not even interested in you! If he’s miserable then he’s not gonna do anything to make you happy and there’s only so long that you can enjoy your shallow victory and gloat about getting him too.

The idea of chasing after someone unavailable or someone simply not interested in you has never made sense to me. You can be attracted to or interested in someone, it might be that you’re not aware of their relationship status or whether or not they will return your feelings when you start catching feelings for someone, but once you know that it’s a dead-end, why chase after it? What even is the point?

Worse is, it’s not one or two shows that have such tracks but ALL of them now! Sigh!

I remember watching Son Pari n Shaka Laka Boom Boom as a kid n during teenage days shows like Shararat, MJHT, Remix.. And later on Sadda Haq n D3

SP used to have kids shows n SO was mostly for teenagers.. Now every channel are just filled with kachra.. Sisters fighting for same man as if he's some trophy.. You can no longer find Nupur-Gunjan or Jeevika-Maanvi..

There's no such thing as dreams, career for FL n even if they have one they sacrifice it for pati n sasural seva.. Coz apparently there's no big achievement like a perfect biwi n bahu.. Once married they must forget their own family.. Kaun bhai, kaun maa, sabke upar Saasu Maa 🙄 But the ML always have a shining career.. He's the Raja Beta of the family n no matter what toxic thing he or his family does always forgiven by FL .. But she's never forgiven by anyone no matter what..

Oh I loved watching Hatim, Shaka Laka Boom Boom as a kid, even those English shows we got dubbed in Hindi like Small Wonder, Bewitched, Who’s the Boss, I Dream of Jeannie. Hip Hip Hurray and those MTV shows with Shehnaz, Mini, Nikhil were my favourite things as a preteen and in my early teens. I don’t even have to list out all the Disney & Looney Tunes shows.

As an older teen MJHT, LNMDJ etc had my heart. I obviously discovered friends around the time and some other shows that I would tune into without fail.

Forget Gunjan Nupur or Jeevika Maanvi, I would settle for SILs now having the same equation as Hansa and Jayshree and be glad for it. There’s not a single comedy show on air, nothing that can rival the ingenuity and comic genius as well as madness of a Khichdi or a Sarabhai vs Sarabhai. There are no weekly shows like Aahat or Zee Horror Show, because horror as a genre has completely disappeared which is incredulous given all the weird supernatural dramas. They’re cringe not creepy and certainly nowhere near as scary as those shows were even with substandard VFX and a very small budget in comparison to anything on TV today. Nor any shows like Love Stories that aired on Star Plus with new characters and stories every weekend.

Reality shows are scripted and dance shows have lost their charm because nothing can match the appeal of Boogie Woogie.

We have lost quality to quantity unfortunately. There’s nothing worth substance and we’re merely watching to kill time not because we’re invested in characters, the storytelling and the story itself.

The shows themselves are like the characters now, where everyone is dressed as if they’re going to attend a wedding, it’s loud, messy and commotion all the time but I miss the days gone by where characters were as simply dressed as the story was but it was all heartwarming and real. You felt like you knew them and could be one of them or befriend your favourite characters. Now they’re all so bizarre that if they were real people you’d not wanna hang around with them because they’re not worth the time nor the headache.
