Before she quit Kahani three years ago, Shweta Kwatra had a great innings on television as the cunning and revengeful Pallavi. Three years later when Shweta made a comeback on television she entered Kumkum in a positive role. Playing Nivedita, Kumkum's college friend, she joined the show as Kumkum and Sumeet's close associate and confidante. But apparently Shweta who loves playing negative characters got bored of playing the goody-goody character and asked the channel and the producer to make the role negative. Sources in Star Plus say that she pleaded with the producer and the channel to turn Nivedita into a totally scheming and black character. However, Shweta denies that she has anything to do with Nivedita turning negative. "Of course I love playing negative characters because these roles are very challenging and give lot of scope to perform. There is nothing to do for a positive character except crying. As for Nivedita, it was supposed to be a negative character though it started on a positive note. There is a justification for her turning into a negative persona and it was all part of the character's journey which was planned when the character was introduced," explains Shweta. But sources in Star insist that Shweta was missing the popularity that she enjoyed while playing the scheming Pallavi and she wanted Nivedita to turn negative hoping that she will get better exposure and appreciation from viewers. It sure seems like a smart move considering how boring and insipid the goody goody roles on television have become in recent times. |
