Daily soaps taking a generation Leap" seems to have become a norm on
television these days.
The latest to jump on the "generation leap" bandwagon, close on
the heels of 'Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi', 'Kahani Ghar Ghar
Ki', 'Kasauti Zindagi Ki' and 'Des Mein Nikla Hoga Chand' , is 'Kum Kum', the popular afternoon daily on Star Plus.
Beginning April 10, 'Kumkum', revolving around Kumkum and Sumeet
Wadhwa, played by actress Juhi Parmar and Hussain respectively, has
taken a 20 year leap into the future.
''Unlike the other shows where the "fast forward movement" seems
to have evoked a 'dj vu' among the TV viewers, the generation
leap in 'Kum Kum' will bring a breeze of freshness and maturity,''
Anuradha Prasad of Bag Films, the producer of the afternoon show,
said.
The producer said the main objective of the 20-year leap, which
introduces five new characters to the serial, was to rejuvenate the
show and add an element of freshness to the plot.
On whether the leap was made following several prime time soaps
doing so, Prasad said.'' For nearly three-and a half years, we have
had a very successful run on TV with Kumkum being the only serial
to sustain 780 episodes without a leap. Taking the leap now will help
us churn out a whole new story for our viewers to follow which in
turn will renew their interest in the show. Thus, more than
anything else, it is the demand of the audiences to see something
new." ''The "generation leap" in 'Kumkum will be much unlike that
in other serials in that the story, which essentially revoves around
Kumkum and Sumeet, will continue to do so.
The romantic tale of Kumkum and Sumeet will continue to hold
centrestage. The only thing that will happen is that the leap will
give a tinge of deeper shade to the romance of Kumkum and
Sumeet, ''the producer said.
