LOL I'm british, but I keep on tabs with the weekly ratings hence why I know so much about the ratings/ rankings in india. I simply ignore online and uk rating announcements as indian GEC's and their sponsors don't care about international audience whatsoever, and only care about the ratings they get in india, as it is only the indian tv viewing audience whose views are actually recorded, and that too, not even all of the indian tv viewers are recorded as they have no accurate means of recording all viewership in india itself, let alone looking at international ratings, hence the sample size upon which trp's are decided is a very small sample of a couple of thousand viewers in india, which is abysmal. So long as ratings in india are high, shows are safe.

Oh haha sorry 🙈 u always know so much so presumed you lived in India 🤣 a lesson learned in judging a book by its cover 😃 do you mean to say if viewership drops in the uk they will still air a show regardless of the fact that it doesn’t match the high ratings of india? That can’t do too well from an advertisers perspective if they’re not gaining the channel numbers? I imagine the channels make a lot of money from the uk audience, showing uk adverts and being paid in ££

Nah! They would take it off air even in international countries like uk too if it wasn't faring well in india because their indian advertisers seem to be far more important for indian GEC's, else why would international views be seen as irrelevant to final trp's. I've honestly never quite understood this aspect of ITV ratings that why they go for the most rubbish and inaccurate rating system that ignores the largest amount of views in favour of only a few thousand.

Perhaps their target is location more than anything eg ppl outside of city centres. It does feel to me very similar to uk soaps where it has a feel of influence so perhaps it’s not so much getting the numbers but getting it in specific areas. I’m purely speculating.

On a side note what do u think about the amount of shows that depict rape so often? I personally find it really disturbing, more so the consequences that seem to be non existent. I understand that India has high numbers of violence against females, one of the highest in the world so I really think they feed this instead of trying to emancipate women and give them rights and protections (I don’t mean to offend anyone in saying this). Every few months there seems to be a rape/attempted rape storyline.

I’ve voiced distaste in the past over the use of rape as a plot device in serials. Ekta disgusted me in the past with her K serials when a promo aired on star plus where it was so proudly and elaborately announced that there would be a rape track simultaneously aired in three of her shows (kyunki saas..., kahani ghar ghar ki and Kasautii Zindagi ki).

All three tracks were poorly handled in my opinion with no real justice given to any of the victims and it merely portrayed family drama caused by the rape incident where the victim was subjected to skepticism or mockery within the family and then some big baashan given by the female lead in support of the victim. There was no real resolve given to the tracks.
