As sunlight fell on my face, I woke up from my bed stretching my arms. It has been 3 days since I saw sunrise. My fever stopped me from going to school and doing any work at home. I felt so bored and it was more than boring that day as Daadi, Mom and Bulbul had went to a wedding at Palghar. They had to leave me behind with Janki Bua because of my health. I must confess that three days at home not doing any work had made me very lazy that I felt lazy even to brush my teeth.
It was 10 am when I sat for breakfast. I heard the sound of cycle bells ringing and I knew who it was.
"You are eating breakfast just now?", asked Piku while Nikita held my hand and got me get up from the chair.
"Arrey.. What are you doing? Let her eat", said Janki Bua coming from the kitchen.
Nikita and Piku waited for me to finish eating and asked Janki Bua to let us go to the library. Something was definitely off. Nikita and library cannot be in a sentence. They were upto something but I had to play along since they were my friends.
Nikita and Piku started riding their cycles after I sat behind Nikita on her cycle. I asked them where were we going. They looked at each other mischievously and Nikita said, "Of course library"
That was not the route to library and I knew it but I kept quiet as I knew that they wouldn't tell me anyway. Finally we reached a park. They made me sit on grass and went away saying that they would be back in few minutes.
I had no choice but to look around to pass time till they came and I happened to see a young girl on a swing being pushed by a boy from behind. The girl asked the boy to push faster and higher and the boy was doing what she said. Unfortunately, the girl fell down as she tried to get down from the swing abruptly. The girl started screaming in pain and another boy came running towards the girl with three ice-creams in his hands. I could see pain in the boy's eyes as he came running. The second boy scolded the first boy for not being careful and after some time, the girl stopped crying. I couldn't hear it properly but the first boy must have felt hurt by the second boy's words. He stood alone in a corner while the girl went to play. The second boy noticed it and came towards the first boy. He held his ears and apologized but his goal was not achieved. He started tickling the first boy and they started laughing. I smiled as I saw them.
"Happy Friendship Day", the second boy said loudly and they started eating their ice-creams which had started melting.
"Happy Birthday to you"
I heard Nikita and Piku singing this and bringing something. It was a lunch box full of gulab jamuns with a candle on each jamun. I couldn't decipher anything until they sang "Happy Birthday to dear Pragya"
They told me that they had planned to bring a birthday cake but changed it at the last minute as I loved gulab jamuns.
"But it's not my birthday", I said confused. Nikita asked Piku what happened. Piku told her that she saw my birthday as 02-08-1984 in the students register. I told her that my birthday was 20-09-1984. I could see Nikita giving a murderous glare to Piku. Nikita started chasing Piku and I was stuck in between as I tried to stop Nikita from chasing Piku.
"What if it's not my birthday? We have something else to celebrate.", I told them and they looked at me puzzled.
