this doesn't sound good 😆
I was walking through the corridor when I heard her talking to someone over phone. She was happily talking to some person named Rahul. Who could that be? May be a friend or a relative? Whoever it is, why does it matter to me? I brushed it off and walked.
She came to my room with my medicines after few minutes. I ask her what was she doing and she told me she had some work. I asked her again why she was late in giving me medicines and she replied me that I was being authoritative as if she was my caretaker and I was complaining that she was not being punctual. I know that she meant it as a joke but it hurt me even though I had no reason to be hurt. I silently took the medicines. She asked me whether I wanted to talk about something. I nodded no.
Two days later, I saw her dressed up like she was going to some function. I asked her where was she going and she told me she was going to a wedding. By that time, Daadi came and asked me whether I had any plans to which I replied no. Daadi asked me whether I could drop Pragya at the wedding venue.
As we boarded the car, she asked me whether I could turn on the music. I teased her that she wouldn't get her meaningful songs in my car. To my surprise, she just smile and didn't say anything. I don't know why but I was getting bored of my own playlist that I kept pressing the next button until the playlist ended. She looked at me perplexed. I told her that we could talk instead of listening to songs.
"Whose wedding?", I asked her.
"Rahul", she said.
A smile crept into my face as I heard the name 'Rahul'. I asked whether he was her friend. She said no. I asked whether he was her relative. She said no again and before she could tell further, I asked her whether he was her ex-boyfriend then. That must have got her profusely angry.
"I dont have any boyfriend", she said angrily.
"I told ex-boyfriend. There is an ex in my sentence", I tried to explain myself.
"You? I never had any boyfriend. Is that enough?", she told me angrily and just then we reached the venue. She got down without even telling a bye. I wondered what did I do to make her so angry. I had a thought whether I should follow her inside and ask her what was the problem but then it was a wedding, I didn't want to be an uninvited guest and attract attention.
I was in my music room with my guitar when Daadi came to me. She looked worried. I asked her what was the matter and she told that Pragya didn't return yet. I assured her that she would come home and must have met her friends/relatives in the wedding and thus she must be late. Daadi said that her phone was also not reachable. Now, that got me worried. I told Daadi that I would go and check. I went to the wedding venue, the building's lights were already off and it was closed. I tried calling her number but it was not reachable as Daadi said.
I drove slowly along the road looking for her on either side of the road hoping to see her standing under a shelter to shield her from the rain that had just started.
Finally I saw her.
"Great! Daadi is freaking worrying about her at home and here she is happily walking in rain. Let me knock some sense into her"
I got down from my car but something she did amused me. She went to the middle of the road, picked up something and ran towards a closed shop hugging the thing she picked up.
What was it?
I walked towards her and as soon as she saw me, she smiled and asked me my phone. I asked her what was she doing but she was more into my phone as her phone got wet in rain. I gave her my phone, she called someone and I didn't understand the context of her conversation so I wasn't being attentive. After she ended the call, I asked her to come to the car but she denied. It was a puppy. She was holding a puppy. She was talking to it as if it was a kid. I couldn't understand whom she was waiting for. But I wasn't in a mood to question her as I knew she would never give straight answers.
After 20 minutes, a guy came and she gave him what she was holding in her dupatta. It was a puppy. She introduced him as her friend. He is associated with an animal welfare organisation, she told me while we were returning home in my car. She was all praises for him saying that he was kind-hearted, compassionate etc. She also added how he was her best friend in college. I got impatient. I asked her why was she telling it to me.
"If I don't tell you, then you might assume things", she said.
"What will I assume?", I asked her clueless.
"Like you assumed something few hours ago"
"What did I assume few hours ago?"
"Nothing", she said crossing her arms.
This girl doesn't know to talk directly. She always talks in riddles confusing my already confused mind even more.
After we reached home, I left her with Daadi to let her get scolded for not informing that she would be late. The next day, I went to office early as Purab had asked me to, for meeting a new client. I missed her morning coffee. It was 2 pm when I came back and I was more interested in drinking coffee than having lunch. I couldn't see her anywhere in the kitchen, hall or my room. Robin asked me whether I would like to have lunch. I asked him about Pragya instead of answering his question. He told me that she was taking rest in her room as she was unwell.
I went to her room only to find her assembling her phone. I asked her whether she was a phone mechanic before.
"Phone Mechanic?", she looked at me confused following by a sneeze.
"You are trying to repair your phone? I would suggest you should give to a technician", I said.
She said that she didn't know that I would go to office early that day. If she had known, she would have brought my coffee and breakfast earlier.
I sat on her bed while she was still standing. I asked her whether she doesn't have plans of searching a job. She told me she was searching.
"If you are worried about my coffee, breakfast, medicines etc, when would you have time to search for a job. You are always doing one work or the other at home.", I finally told her what was bugging me. She looked uneasy after my statement. She started to say something but it was interrupted by a couple of sneezes. I asked her whether she took any medications and she replied positively. I told her to take rest as we could talk later. Just when I was about to cross the door, I apologized to her. She asked me why. I told her that I didn't have any intention to hurt her when I asked whether that Rahul was her boyfriend and it was a casual query. I didn't even know why I brought that topic or why I was apologizing. I expected her to tell that I need not apologize but instead, she said, "It's OK" with a smile.
"So it really hurt her but why?", I went to my room confused as usual.
After few hours, I went to her room to check. She was still sleeping with the blanket up to her face. Her face looked pale. I went to her and checked whether she was fine. She was running a temperature. I called my family doctor. He came within half an hour and after checking her, he said that it was a normal fever and she would be fine soon.
I couldn't sleep peacefully that night as I kept going to her room every one or two hours to check if she was fine. I tried to convince myself that I was overreacting as it was just a normal fever but I couldn't stop myself from going. During one such visit, she seemed to speak. I checked whether she was awake but her eyes were still closed.
"Pragya", I called her in a low voice.
She didn't respond. I concluded that she must have talked something in her sleep and left the room.
As soon as I woke up the next day, I went to her room to check and she was still sleeping.
"Good Morning Pragya", I said to sleeping Pragya but something stopped me from leaving the room. I went closer to her and said, "Good Morning Fuggy". The day went fast as I was busy recording a new song.
That night she came to my room and asked me whether I was free. I told her that I was free and asked her what she wanted to talk. She said that she just came in for a casual talk.
"How are you feeling now?", I asked her trying to start a conversation as both of us remained silent for more than 5 minutes. She said that she was fine and asked whether I took my medicines. I told her that I did and then asked about her. She said she was fine and there was no need for tablets.
"Haan. That's right. You have become a super woman in a day that you don't need tablets.", I said sarcastically and reminded her that she was sleep talking the previous day.
"Sleep talking? What did I say?", she said with a panic in her voice.
"Well, I can't say that. That's personal", I teased her.
"Personal? But I am asking what I said", she countered.
"Leave it. You were unwell and weak. So you would have talked so. I forgive you", I said lazily.
"Forgive? What did I say?"
"Well you talked about your love"
"Love?"
"You can't deny that now Chashmish. I know you are in love"
"What else did I say?", she said fidgeting the ends of her dupatta with tension inevitably visible on her face.
What did she mean by what else did I say? She is really in love? No, how could she be?
Why can't she be in love? Is she really in love or is she playing along with me?
"You said that you love him so much", I said in a brittle voice not willing to lose if she was really playing along with me. She was silent.
"You would even give your life for him"
"You would do anything for his happiness"
"You can't see him in pain"
I was listing out things with a hope that she would ask me to stop at some point but she wasn't. She wasn't even noticing that my tone was getting harsher.
"But he is a jerk and he doensn't value your love", I said in a rage.
"No he is not. Don't you dare talk about him like that", she said and left the room as usual.
I noticed that her eyes were filled when she left the room.
All these days, I wanted to know about her but now I want to know about the jerk she loves. I don't know why I hated the guy she loves even without knowing his name or anything else about him.
This new venture offers viewers the chance to see Krishna Kaul in a fresh avatar, while also signalling a promising revival of classic-style...
