I was reading up on Freud's Maddona-wh**e complex and how when it comes to roles as sexual being women are either categorised as virginal white or are as sl*ts. just as in kkb , pragya is the virginal white , she is put on a pedestal and is the perfect bahu or is striving to be a perfect wife and tanu is the sexual being , thus who dares to be ambitious so in desi tv basha= doesn't put much stock in relationships . Even when it comes to Aliyah ,she is portrayed as a hypersexual being when it comes to purab, she wants to bed him no matter what and of course she is the villain! Bb, the good girl shys away even from a kiss. I know this the norm for indian television , but it is a bit saddening that even in this century, tv shows are hell bent on perpetuating such stereotypes. (This is not a bashing post and nor am i siding with the villains but a writeup on how creatives choose to portray the women in show )

IT IS! Sadly so!

I am a wee bit relieved that Pragya had a past though with Suresh however platonic it was.

And then see how they dress up Pragya/BB vs Taaliyah. Taaliyah are modern dressed, show skin- so are bad women. Daadis even comment on Aalu's choice of dresses once. I believe Tannu's is commented at too!

Pragya will only wear desi stuff, but then she shows some skin to play bad (as in Mogambo!).

Have you heard there are tests for virginity on suhaag raat for women?

Good point on mogambo showing skin stuff because she has to play bad!!

Then again, Mugambo has been allowed to use sexuality against Abhi ("I'll pay you" on her first day as Mugambo and the scene where she crawls into his lap to suggest Tanu is cheating and how she throws that "mein aao / miaou" thing back at him a few episodes after he introduces it). It's surprisingly subversive that CVs have shown the heroine doing such a sustained vamp act. They are trusting the audience to know and accept that Pragya is still their good, wholesome, ideal woman, and that it is in fact OK for her to dress immodestly and assert that she has desire. BUT it's ultimately still a regressive message because they're only saying it's ok *as pretense* and for a purpose. Which makes me curious as to how they will handle Pragya's wardrobe and demeanor in intimate scenes once the pretense is over.

I really like your analysis of Aalu vs BB. It annoyed me a lot that Aalu wanting to kiss her fiance was shown as so wrong and disgusting and then subsequently BB had to find ways to avoid Purab kissing her. Totally true to type but still annoying! 😆

Neha.
Agreeing with you.
Skinny clothes and hypersexual behaviour it was fixed to villains in tv serial.
And just opposite for heroin on tv serial

Yes Mina, while i admired mogambo being allowed to use her sexuality against Abhi instead of the usual trope of heroine shying away , but i would have have been happier if she wasn't doing under the pretense of being gold digger( wasn't she trying to repulse abhi reinforcing that she wasn't his fuggy but mogambo ,out to take away his wealth and power ). We will have to see how CVS will deal with pragya after tanu's reveal. Hope they retain mogambo's spark!! I am more annoyed at bb vs alu coz pragya has always been more of an introvert so maybe expressing her sexuality would have been bit difficult for her (when not roleplaying), specially when it came to Abhi who is always surrounded by glamour and beauty. but bb has been shown as the brash bindaas type , still kissing her fiance was always a big deal for her..
