Chapter Seven

"White or red?"

"Blue"

"I think you do it on purpose."

"I do it because I don't want her to turn your down based on your poor choice of clothes."

"There is nothing wrong in red. I look hot."

"What's wrong in wearing blue?"

"It's in laundry." Ali replied after a moment of guilty pause.

His reply made her laugh, she should have known Ali and his reasons. Pragya let him pick white for his date tonight and wished him luck though he didn't any, she knew her friend was charming and Sarah shouldn't think twice before going out with him officially. She was glad for him and which was why she hadn't disclosed her life's issues to him but he was persistent. "Do you think your husband can lend me his guitar along with a couple of lessons to woo Sarah?"

Pragya rolled her eyes, that man knew one tune which only riled her nowadays. Indiffernce. He had stated as a matter of fact that they were still a couple and had then vanished. Exasperated as much as she was, she didn't want to hamper her mood by the thought of her lousy husband. "You can do better than him." She replied and then before she knew it she had asked him a question which was running in her mind all morning, "Ali.. Yesterday, when I passed out did I .. Um ... Ask you to call my husband?" The word on her lips still sounded surreal, still new, still strange. Husband. My husband.

"Is he not taking care of you?" He asked instead after a long pause.

"That's not... He is better than my expectations." She remembered him stroking her hair last night, his controlled yet irritated tone when he had asked her to take medicine. "Forget what I asked, enjoy your night! I hope you have a good time. "

She didn't want to overshadow his night with her own life's events. She wanted to recollect the moments leading to her unconsciousness the day but she hung up after he asked her once more about her health and she assured him that she was doing fine. At least physically.

She didn't even want to analyze her mental state.

Abhi had not intended to but he did. He just plainly stated the fact without even acknowledging her will to stay in this sham of a marriage. He had been praying since the moment she left him, first for her safety, then for her to be pregnant and then he wanted to get even with him.

To leave her when she was yearning for him, just as he was.

He cursed, slammed the door of the taxi and mumbled an apology to the taxi driver. Things that woman made him do. Falling in love with her had been on top lately. He was glad for the intrusion he got this morning when their breakfast had arrived and shortly after he helped pragya into the bathroom against her will, he had left her side and the room without even peeking into the scrumptious food trolley which he had ordered. Thank God for these coffee shops at almost every turn. The meeting he had had with his peers went fine, fortunately. All he had to do was nod and agree because his mind had refused to cooperate with him today. Well, he had in reality left it with his wife along with his cell phone in his haste to attend the meeting or to avoid her altogether.

So when Pragya dialled Abhi's number, she was certain he was here for revenge. All the act of caring for her had been a facade. Just like their marriage. She needed something to divert her mind so she ended up calling her mother. Talking to her did but little help to her overcharged brain. She did not wat to worry her more than she already was hece she did not disclose her pregnancy. God only knew what she'd have done. Fly across the continent to tend to her? Take her home? Or just give her a piece of mind for abandoning a husband and her family just so she could complete her studies. For the first time she was glad, actually glad that she hadn't disclosed the almost divorce she had had to her family, before she left her country.

Her stomach growled and she ordered another meal. The thought of visiting her hostel did cross her mind but she let it hang, she needed to confront her husband before things went out of control.

~~~
She switched off the TV. The mere side of his handsome face enraged her, filled her with anguish knowing no bounds. Perhaps some air might help her cool down, she thought as she walked up to the terrace. People called it post thematic disorder but she knew it was only anger. She punched her fist in her palm. Abhishek Mehra had ruined her.
She was deprived of her dreams, her life. The only companion she had now was the crying baby who seemed to have an insatiable appetite and an unpredictable habit of crying. She held the railing of her balcony, a little too tight until her knuckles turned white. He will have to pay. She will make certain.
Tanushri Ahoja walked back to her room with venom in her mind.
~~~

By the time Abhi reached back to his hotel, his wife was sleeping on her side. He crossed the room and changed into his casuals. It was when he emerged from the restroom, he heard the sound of a hiccup. He walked past the bed, took out his iPad and inserted his headphone in his ears.
Another sniff.

He was next to pragya in an instant. Shaking her awake, which she alreday was. "Are you all right?"

"Why do you care?" She mumbled.

"Why wouldn't I?" He kept his hand on her upper arm.

"Because you left me this morning."

"You are in no position to accuse me of doing this act, when you literally walked out on me months ago."

"But you were not pregnant." She sniffed.

How that woman could make him smile even when she was crying was beyond him, so he gathered her in his arms while she cried some more. "Better?"

"Of course not." She took the liberty to glare at him. "I miss my mother."

"Too bad. You only have me today." He gave in to his whim and kissed the top of her head.

"Why did you let me believe we are divorced?" She whispered.

"Why did you divorce me in the first place?" He braced himself for the answers he had waited for months. For her side of the story and he was almost afraid because now, if she still wanted it he wouldn't be able to turn her down.

Because that's what people do when in love, they give. No matter what they are asked for.

I guess It is not fair on my part to analyze writing skills as I have never written any thing 😳
But I do read a lot .. Your writing amaze me every time I read. So compact yet elaborate enough to visualize the scene. I love the pattern.You involve reader in your writing to imagine, anticipate and expect by carefully giving boundaries.

I am greedy but cant stop my self asking this .. Please update next part as soon as possible 😳

Thank you..
