Story So Far~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Suresh has been Bulbul's neighbour and her sister Pragya's best friend for a long time. He has always admired her in silence, and every night he stands by his window for a glimpse of her across the way. Bulbul thinks he is silly and stuffy and she often teases Pragya about her best friend's personality.
Suresh and Pragya's family want them to get engaged, and Suresh happily says under the mistaken assumption that the proposal is for Bulbul. When he finds out that it's actually for Pragya, he is unhappy but he tries to maintain his commitment. Eventually Pragya learns of his love for Bulbul and breaks the engagement but remains friends with him.
Bulbul is furious with Suresh for breaking her sister's heart and she has no interest in his affections. She has discovered love with her boss at her new job, Purab Khanna. However, Purab turns out to be engaged to Aaliya Mehra, the sister of rockstar Abhi. When Bulbul learns that Purab is otherwise involved, she breaks her relationship with him.
Aaliya instigates Abhi to marry Pragya, believing her to be Purab's new girlfriend rather than Bulbul. When Bulbul learns the basis of her sister's marriage, she is devastated and resolves to encourage Purab to marry Aaliya even though he doesn't want to.
Purab agrees to marry Aaliya, but runs away on the wedding day. He finds Bulbul in Pune where she was visiting friends, and an ugly confrontation ensues with Abhi. Bulbul's mother has a heart attack due to the drama and Bulbul becomes estranged from her family for being the cause of trouble in her sister's sasural. However eventually she is accepted back. She still resolves to remain apart from Purab.
Over these months, whenever Bulbul meets Suresh, she tends to be angry with him. She is quick to see fault with Suresh, and he does not try to change her mind about him. He is busy just trying to live his life quietly, working and supporting his younger sister Rachna, who is unmarried but pregnant by Abhi's cousin Aakash.
The Arora family faces trouble when Neel, a corporator and former classmate of Bulbul, decides to get their marriage hall closed because Bulbul rejected him. Purab and Bulbul work together to resolve the matter but it is ultimately Abhi who saves the day. In the background, Suresh takes care of paperwork and legal matters to assure that the Aroras retain ownership of their land and business.
Aaliya eventually learns that it was a mistake to get Pragya married to Abhi, and she wants to get her out of his life. She arranges for Suresh to visit the house one day when Abhi and the rest of the family are at a concert. She films an MMS of Pragya and Suresh in Abhi and Pragya's bedroom, and edits it to make it look like Pragya and Suresh have been having an affair behind Abhi's back. When Abhi sees the MMS, he is enraged and almost kills Suresh.
Pragya and Suresh know the MMS is false, but they are unable to prove it to Abhi. Finally Pragya decides to divorce Abhi, but he makes it a condition that she must marry Suresh before she can leave his house. Pragya refuses and even Suresh is reluctant, but eventually Abhi gets them both to the mandap. Suresh agrees because he feels responsible for Pragya and wants to help her as a friend. Bulbul is unhappy with Abhi's plan because it's not what Pragya wants and vents her anger at him, but it doesn't change his mind.
Abhi dramatically stops Pragya and Suresh's wedding, revealing that it was only a plan to expose Aaliya. Abhi then decides to finalise Purab and Bulbul's wedding because they still love each other and he wants Aaliya free from her obsession with Purab. Suresh learns of Bulbul's engagement at Abhi's New Years Party. He accidentally gets drunk and it leads to a confrontation where he declares his feelings for Bulbul and asks for a chance with her. Bulbul is disgusted by his statements and rejects him.
When he is sober, Suresh regrets his outburst. He resolves to be happy for Bulbul and Purab, believing that if Purab is Bulbul's happiness then it's best for them to be together.
During Bulbul's engagement party, Pragya is kidnapped in another plot by Aaliya. Suresh happens to see her in another part of town and informs Abhi's family. Bulbul misunderstands that Suresh is somehow involved in the kidnapping due to negative feelings about her engagement to Purab, but Suresh clarifies that he is not. He tries to help search for Pragya.
Eventually Pragya is found by Abhi and they both return home. Purab and Bulbul's wedding functions are back on, but then Bulbul gets into a car accident when she tries to drive over Neel, who had helped Aaliya with Pragya's kidnapping. Bulbul's marriage to Purab is delayed while she recovers.
Pragya decides to get Rachna and Aakash married, without informing Suresh. Suresh finds out anyway and he is not pleased, but finally he accepts the situation and gives the new couple his blessings.
Finally Bulbul recovers from her injuries and her wedding with Purab is back on.
