Tia the essence of love is difficult to define as it's different for practically every human being. It's a mixture of chemistry, respect, appreciation, pride, care, possessiveness, jealousy, responsibility, commitment and much much more.

Yes it's true responsibility and commitment alone is not enough to give your life for someone. Abhi probably never imagined that they would actually get killed, he left with the intention of getting her back. Pragya is in love and her thoughts and actions are understandable (wanting to die first, protect him etc). I think that's why they have been showing Abhi's changed reaction to her all these days with quite a bit of chemistry.

What will be disappointing is if they go steps backward for ABhi after this. This is too far out for him to backtrack at this point. Their actions today were love and an intention to die for each other.
