on the one hand, doesn't make sense. you meet your old friend after a long time, talk to his wife for 2 mins, and then tell him "don't you dare say a word against her?" the more normal reaction would be to politely commiserate with your friend or say something like "oh i'm sure she's not that bad." i mean he's your friend - you'd assumedly instinctively take his side.

on the other hand, a good friend is one who will call you out when you are being an arse. and in that view, congratulations popo, you may have no place in abhi's life but you're a better friend than anyone else around him on a regular basis.
