Chapter 02 - Chance meetings

"Hey! Excuse me! Hey!"

Abhi lightly touched the girl's shoulder to make her stop.

She looked taken aback to see him again but somehow managed to utter an uncertain "Hi?" to him.

He understood her uncertainty. A complete strange guy ogling at you and then five minutes later chasing you down a street is definitely not the best first impression in the world.

"Hello! I am sorry to disturb you. But I know you! I mean I kind of know you? Not like you know, know you-know you, but like I know you!"

Abhi rambled on and saw her nose and forehead scrunching return as her eyes narrowed.

What the hell is wrong with you! What nonsense are you blabbering!? You are a Rockstar! THE.ROCKSTAR.ABHI for heaven's sake! I am surprised she didn't run away yet!

Abhi was mentally cursing himself for acting like a fool when he heard her giggle.

Why is she giggling! He suddenly felt his ears turning red and for the first time in his adult life Abhishek Mehra became self conscious. He dug his hand in his pocket while the other clutched the bouquet little tight and tried in vain to act cool and flash a smile which ended up being a grimace.

"Seriously! Dude! Is that the best you have got? "I know you- know you"!? What even?"

She air quoted his words and continued to giggle.

"I swear this has got to be the cheesiest thing I have ever heard! No wonder you are still single despite being a good looking guy! Okay listen! One advice! Next time you go to a girl please stop saying such cheesy stuff and definitely NO red roses! Okay? They work only in movies! In real life you would scare away the poor girl! Okay? Good luck!"

Abhi found his mouth agape for the second time in a row. Did she... Yes, looks like that! But... Why? Oh shit! Abhi looked at the bouquet in his hand. What an impression I have created!

He looked up to see her already walking down the street and for the second time in a row began to chase after her.

"Whoa whoa whoa! Wait! It's not what you think!"

He blurted out as soon as he caught up with her.

"You again? Now what?"

She asked continuing to walk and he began to walk with her while explaining.

"Well, it is not how you think! I really do know you! And the roses... Well, they are not for you!"

She finally stopped.

Huh, the scrunched up nose and forehead is back! She has the cutest nose in the world. Whoa Abhi! Cutest nose? What even?! What is wrong with you?

"Well, I saw you in the park couple of days ago... I saw you saving this little girl. And I thought it's really brave of you to jump in like that..."

"Oh well! It was nothing, really. Thanks though!"

She nodded with a smile but then suddenly her smile faltered.

"Oh no! Oh no! I am so sorry! I thought... I thought you were hitting on me earlier! God! This is so embarrassing!"

Abhi watched amused as her multicoloured bangled hand came to cover her face.

"Well, that is alright! Although I must admit it is quite embarrassing!"

And this has got to be the craziest first meeting I ever had! Abhi smiled to himself.

"UFF! This has to be the craziest first meeting ever!"

Oh! Here we go again! Abhi's smile widened hearing her words.

"Okay let's start again! Hi! I am Pragya!"

Pragya offered her hand.

"Hi! I am Abhi! Pragya! Pretty name for a pretty girl!"

He shook her hand.

"And I am not trying to hit on you!"

He added good-naturedly, she smiled in response shaking her head.

"Well, Abhi it was really nice meeting you! But I have got to rush. I have to return few books to the library so..."

"Oh yeah! You love reading right?"

"Yes I do! Wait! How do you know that?"

"Err... Well, I saw you reading at this cafe few days ago... So I figured you must be pretty into it..."

He stammered seeing her eyes narrowing down with his each word.

Great! Now she must be thinking I am some kind of a stalker!

Can this get any more awkward!?

"I am sorry Pragya! But let me make it clear! I am not a stalker! You have got to believe me!"

She continued to stare at him with narrowed eyes and scrunched up nose and forehead. Abhi nervously put his hand back into his pocket and began to sway back and forth on his heel waiting for her response.

Pragya suddenly bursted out laughing.

"Oh god! You look so cute when you are nervous! I know you are not a stalker! Well, at least I hope you are not! Because you know Rockstar it won't be good for your reputation if the word gets out that you are a stalker!"

For the third time in a row Abhi found his mouth agape. Who is this girl!? She knew who he is all this while!? But why didn't she say anything? If it was any other girl they would be all over him by now! Or they would be star struck! But she was gonna leave? Just like that? Without any autograph, picture, nothing?

"Oh come on Rockstar! No need to look so hurt! And I am sorry if I hurt your ego! Well, in my defence it only clicked when you introduced yourself just now. And who would have ever expected to find you here all alone without any body guards right?"

Abhi nodded as he took in the new information.

"So how come you are not asking for any autograph or pictures or anything?"

Oh here comes that smile again, Abhi mused to himself.

"Well, Abhi to be honest I am not that much of a fan of your music. Well, I am sure it must be great but it's just not my type. But but but I must admit, I like you as a personality, well from whatever little things I know about you, you are definitely one of the coolest youth idols we have today!"

"Also I thought as you have obviously tried your best to disguise yourself, to blend in, I would rather not put you in a tight spot by invading your privacy..."

She flashed another smile at him and despite her just admitting for not being a fan of his music, he returned it whole heartedly. Well, he doubted her taste (of course! How could he not?), but at least she was honest about it.

"Okay Abhi then I have got to rush! It was really nice meeting you! All the best in everything you do!"

She offered her multicoloured bangled hand again.

"Well, thank you! It was really nice meeting you too! All the best and do take care!"

He said shaking her hand, her bangles tinkling.

Abhi started towards Indu Daasi's home waiting to tell her all about this crazy girl he just met when he felt a light tap on his shoulder.

"So Abhi before I leave, how about that autograph? Who knows whether we will ever meet again or not!?"

He smiled at Pragya and took the paper she offered.

He signed it and on a whim added his phone number right below his sign and gave it back to her.

She looked at the paper now reading, "with love and best wishes from Abhi" along with his number and smiled at him.
