Some Days Last Forever, part one
Abhi stretches and looks towards the empty balcony.
"Chashmish must have come in while I was still asleep."
***
Come on, Chashmish! Answer the phone!
"Ay, Chashmish! I've been calling you forever! I want to talk to you. When will you answer?"
***
Listening to Aaliya over breakfast -- how had Abhi never noticed how mean spirited she had become? Even after getting her way, Aaliya continues to say terrible things about not only Chashmish and her entire family but Purab as well. Her own family members are not safe either. Every day something sends Aaliya into a rage.
And -- oh, perfect -- here comes Tanu. He broke up with her three days after Chashmish left but she arrives every day like clockwork. Doesn't she work anymore?
The only time he complained Daadi replied, "Ab pachatae hoot kya jab chidiya chug gayi khet." (Why repent now, when the bird has already eaten the crop.)
He has to forgive his sister but he can't stand the face of a woman who first refused to marry him and then spent several months helping him torture an innocent woman.
It's hard to look in the mirror.
***
Abhi checks his phone. Maybe it rang and he didn't hear it.
"Ay, Chashmish. This is Rockstar Abhi. You really need to change your phone message."
***
At least in the studio Abhi can forget the mess he's made of his life for a few hours. While talking and joking with the backup singers and the other musicians, the knot in his chest loosens just a little.
Now he understands why Chashmish criticized his music.
***
"Bulbul! Is Chashmish okay? She will not take my call. Okay but I will keep trying."
***
Leaning against the pillow border Abhi set up so Chashmish would sleep in the bed is the only way he can relax. Not even his favorite pillow helps.
***
Abhi's fingertips dance over his phone's screen.
"Please Pragya. I need to see you."
