Double Date

AbhiGya Drabble

[Although going by the length of this one - this is no drabble!😉😆]

"Where are they?"

Pragya grumbled slumping on to a stair.

"How am I supposed to know? In case you didn't notice I am sitting right here next to you!"

Abhi retorted back as he took out his phone.

"Urgh! I hate late comers!"

Pragya complained scrunching her nose as she laid her head on his shoulder.

Finally a light appeared from the end of the street. Abhi looked up and got to his feet hurriedly making Pragya lose her balance.

"Ouch! Eiii Rockstar! Am I invisible or what!"

Pragya said rubbing on her elbow.

"Oops! Sorry Fuggy! But you can't be near me tonight. Don't even come close okay?"

"What? Why?"

"Arrey you know why! Everybody in college thinks we are dating! Each other! I don't want them to think like that too! Otherwise this double date is going to end before even it starts."

Pragya just nodded still annoyed.

The car came to a stop in front of her gate and they went out to meet their respective dates.

Pragya saw Tannu sitting in the front seat but her eyes moved past her to the driver's seat. A nerd type guy wearing Chashma looked back at her and smiled shyly.

Huh? What the hell!

Pragya turned to Abhi to find him slowly whistling as he checked out Tannu sitting beside the nerd guy.

"You got me this guy! This guy? Are you out of your mind Abhi?"

She hissed at him.

"What? You told me you want someone exactly opposite of me... So I got you him!"

Abhi said innocently.

"Abhi this is not funny! How could you do this! I got you Tannu!"

"Well yeah. Because I asked for someone hot! You asked for someone opposite me so you got him!"

"This is not done! From where did you find him?"

"Well, he was coming out of the library when I saw him. And I thought that's the Destiny's way of telling that this is Fuggy's date!"

He winked smirking.

"Oh shut up! I am not going!"

"Oh come on Fuggy! Just give him a chance! Come on."

Abhi gently pushed her towards the car and after exchanging pleasantries for awhile Tannu moved to the back seat with Abhi while Pragya went to sit in the front.

Pragya pretended to enjoy the view outside as the nerd guy who is called Suresh drove. Her irritation increased each time she heard giggling from the back seat.

"Wow Abhi you look fit!"

She heard Tannu saying.

Was her voice always this irritating? How come I didn't notice before? Pragya wondered.

"Well, thanks! And you look quite fit too!"

"Aww Abhi thank you so much! I have been following a new diet you know..."

"Really? Wow! That must be it then. I love such... Err... disciplined people like you. You know unlike some people who hog on everything and anything they see!"

A nudge on her seat followed by the sentence made her scowl but she was determined to not turn back.

Idiot!

"Awww thank youuu Abhiii..."

Pragya cringed and mimicked Tannu silently.

She needs to focus on something else!

"So Suresh what are your hobbies?"

Pragya turned to Suresh, finally.

Well, he is not that bad! I was just overreacting!

Pragya thought as she listened to Suresh while she munched on her food.

He was well-read and Pragya found his thoughts interesting.

They seemed to have a few common things as well.

It felt kind of weird to have such mature conversation with someone when Abhi was sitting in the same table, pondered Pragya. If it was some other day they would be bickering by now, 'like an old couple' as their friends say. Or else they would be teasing each other over one thing or the other.

Pragya smiled.

Abhi got irritated seeing Pragya smiling listening to that idiot. Double battery!

Well, he is supposed to be his opposite! He is not supposed to talk that much or to make her smile! That was his thing!

His annoyance soon turned into a headache with Tannu's nonstop chatter about some diet she is following and some guy or the other who keep running after her. Thank god she is hot otherwise he would have left the place as soon as he got out of that car.

He looked at Tannu busy taking selfies. Thank god Fuggy is not like her!

"Hey Fuggy did you do that assignment?"

Ha! He knew that would make her react.

"Which one?" Pragya asked confused.

"How am I supposed to know?" He retorted.

"Huh?"

"What huh?"

"But Abhishek now you are the one who told her about the assignment?"

Suresh chimed in.

What is with this double battery! Can't he see I am talking to Fuggy! Why intervene in our talks! No manners!

Abhi pondered.

"Yes Rockstar! Now you only told na..."

He scowled at Fuggy. Why would she include him in our discussion!

"Rockstar! Wow! I like it!"

Tannu said looking away from her phone.

"Abhi I am going to call you Rockstar from now! Rockstar!"

Pragya saw Tannu winking at Abhi and suddenly felt like throwing her drink at Tannu.

No one calls him Rockstar except her! Grr! Why did she pick this bimbo for him! She could have asked Meetu! But no! It just had to be Tannu!

What was she thinking!

"But no one calls me Rockstar except Fuggy!"

Abhi muttered bit annoyed.

Huh! How is that Tannu! Pragya relaxed.

"Fuggy? Who is Fuggy? Oh! Pragya you!"

Abhi and Pragya watched perplexed as Tannu started to laugh soon joined by Suresh.

Will they continue to laugh if she pours her drink on both their heads? Pragya! Control! Don't waste your drink!

Pragya crossed her arms.

"What is so funny about that!"

Abhi asked annoyed.

"Exactly! I don't see what is so funny about that either."

Pragya added defensively.

"Oh come on! You call her Fuggy! Who calls anyone 'Fuggy'? That is hilarious right?"

Tannu looked at Suresh who nodded.

"Yeah! Fuggy! What does that even mean?"

He laughed again and highfived Tannu across the table.

Once they clam down they turned to find two very annoyed dates scowling at them, united in their dislike for their respective dates.

"Well that was fun..."

Pragya said sarcastically as she walked down the road with Abhi.

"Idiots!" Abhi muttered.

"I know right! Such a waste of time!"

"He should have been named Double battery! Not Suresh!"

"Double battery? Yeah! That sounds good! Such a bore!"

"But he didn't seem to be such a bore when you listened to him like this!"

Abhi mimicked Pragya only to be nudged by her.

"Oh shut up! I didn't look like that! You looked like that when talking to that chudail!"

"Oh please! I am trying to delete this whole thing from my memory!"

"Ooohhh Abhiii I am on a diet Abhiii... I am thisss Abhiii I am that Abhiii!! Ohhh Abhiii you look so fittt! Urghhh!"

Pragya began to copy Tannu only to be strangled by Abhi.

Laughing she pushed him away but he managed to catch her hand.

"Seriously Rockstar this dating thing is so not for us!"

"I know Fuggy! We are better off!"

"No more dating?"

"No more dating! No more double batteries! No more chudails!"

"Amen to that!"

"By the way Fuggy... Does that mean you won't wear frocks again? And from where on earth did you get this?"

He asked pointing her dress.

"What do you mean? It's mine!"

"Oh shut up! You don't have dresses! Must be Purvi's! Right? I knew it!"

Pragya laughed nodding.

"And this shirt? It's Purab's right?"

"Yep!"

"You should wear shirts more often..."

"Why? Because I look dashing in shirts?"

"Ew! No! Shut up!"

"You are just jealous!"

"Jealous?"

"Yeah!"

"Why would I be jealous?"

"Because I am pretty!"

"Pretty! Uff Duffer! Girls are pretty! Boys are handsome!"

"So you agree I am handsome?"

"I didn't say that!"

"But you said boys are handsome. And I am a boy. So I am handsome!"

"What kind of logic is that Rockstar?"

"My kind of logic!"

They walked on hand in hand bantering, 'like an old couple'.
