Maverick actor-cum-producer Anuj Saxena can't figure out why his serial Kulvaddhu is being axed. What he also can't fathom is the fact that his show has been singled out for harsh treatment when other shows too are not showing better TRPs than Kulvaddhu. "I don't think TRP is the issue. There has to be some other reason. In any case Kulvaddhu is only three months old and has been getting a TRP of around 0.8 to 0.9 and the numbers have been picking up in the last couple of weeks.

On the other hand, some of their shows that have been on air for almost a year are not doing any better than my show. Even Jeete Hain Jiske Liye and Durgesh Nandini are struggling with 0.5 and 0.4 TVRs respectively. When Sony's share has slipped quite a bit how was my show expected to get good TRP numbers in three months?" asks Anuj. "The channel's position is weak at prime time. If a serial has to show decent numbers it needs to be given enough time."

Anuj says he stands to lose a lot of money. "I have spent a lot on the set and production. The show also had the best of star cast. It would have taken me more than six months to recover the cost. But never mind, it's my loss and I will try to recover it from other productions of mine. Work continues at Maverick. One show going off air doesn't bring the shutters down on my company," says Anuj who is the presenter and financier of Vivek Waswani's Shah Rukh Khan-Sushmita Sen starrer Dulha Mill Gaya which will go on the sets next week. "The film was supposed to go on the sets two weeks ago but got delayed for some reason. Now we are allready to shoot the first schedule." (Sampurn)

Baa Bahoo cast shoot in Singapore

For a change, recently some of the key actors and technicians of Baa Bahoo Aur Baby moved out of their studio sets for a six-day tour of Singapore. Well, they didn't go to Singapore for a holiday but to shoot four episodes of the weekend show in various exotic locations of the island nation, thanks to little girl Chaitali who wins a competition and bags a six-day holiday to Singapore for her family.

"We have shot on some of the most eye-catching locations in Singapore like the Singapore Zoo, Jurong Bird Park, Centre's Island and Merlion Park besides the malls and riverside restaurants. The family not only enjoys a good holiday but the story also moves ahead with some interesting twists and turns. We have weaved in some dramatic moments to take the story forward," says actor-producer J. D. Majethia. So watch out for Gattu, Baa, Baby and others have fun away from the regular Mumbai studios.

The lead pair of Sony's Kulvadhu are in rather low spirits these days. It is yet to sink in that the show has been abruptly axed by the Channel. For Sachin Sharma it's a feeling of dj vu because his earlier show Viadehi too was axed. The only consolation for him was that the show didn't end abruptly. However, within a week of Vaidehi going off air, Sachin was smiling again because he had replaced Imran Khan as Shourya, the lead in Kulvaddhu. Unfortunately his happiness was short-lived.

"It's really very sad and bad. The show had immense potential and it was all set for a major take-off," laments the actor who feigns ignorance about the reason behind the serial's abrupt end. "It's the channel's decision and I am okay with it. I think Kulvaddhu should have been given a chance to prove its worth," says Sachin who is also on a break from Sindoor. With no work in hand he feels lost and jobless. "I will have to go on a forced sabbatical till the next role comes my way though I am not in a mood to take a break or even go on a holiday," he confesses.

Sachin isn't the only one feeling lost, his co-star Daljeet Kaur is also in the same boat with him. "God knows what went wrong suddenly," wonders Daljeet who feels TRP are definitely not the reason for the show going off air. "I am a newcomer and I don't understand what really makes or breaks a show. But I do feel that we should have been given an opportunity to prove ourselves. We did a good job. The show had all the elements needed for a successful run. I am definitely disappointed," says the actress, adding, "I am going to miss the show. It's a huge setback for me and it will take me some time before I come out of it."

'I'll be stepping into the real world now'

Daljit Kaur says she doesn't know why her serial is suddenly being pulled off air.

HARSHADA REGE

Though Kulvaddhu on Sony was not Daljit Kaur's debut serial, it was the ultimate launch pad a newcomer could have asked for. Right from the sets and production values to her co-stars, she had all that was necessary to make a serial successful. Yet, within three months of telecast, the serial is being pulled off air. And all the actors including Daljit are clueless as to why this step has been taken. "We are shooting for two more days. After that, the serial will be wrapped up. All of us are still in shock. None of us knew what has gone wrong for them to take such a drastic step. I know that we may not be the number one serial, but the TRPs were pretty good," Daljit feels.
However, she says that she has enjoyed her experience immensely. "People would often ask me whether my schedules are hectic, but I never thought so. I was pampered by the unit. Everything and every need of every actor was taken care of her. In a sense, I'll be stepping into the real world now. And I have to admit that I am a little scared," says a slightly emotional Daljit.
Though Daljit has not signed any new serial, she is looking at some projects. "I have been a model and I would love to get back on the ramp," she says. What will she be doing after the serial is wrapped? "I am off to the UK for a show. Ironically, it's an event organised by the same channel. Once I get back, I will start looking at some scripts seriously," she says.
Daljit says that Anuj Saxena, who produced the serial has been encouraging her to look beyond the serial. "I remember the day after he got to know that the serial was going off air, he met me. I was really surprised at how calmly he had accepted the decision. In fact, I asked him whether he is really so calm or that's a pretence. But he told me that such ups and downs are part of an actor's life and one should learn to deal with it. I am doing just that," she concludes.

Sony's Kulvaddhu was suddenly axed and when the channel was asked to give a specific reason for doing so, the head honcho reportedly said, "After watching it for two months we realised that the story wasn't moving the way we wanted it to. The lead protagonist Niyati just doesn't fit in. She doesn't represent today's youngsters."

Poor girl, what is she to do if her script is such. A young, bubbly looking girl is made to dress like a plump ghati village belle, who's only job is to keep the husband happy no matter how much pain it causes her. The script itself is warped — not today's theme.

We hear Sony too is insisting on programmes for the young, aspirational women who want to go out there and achieve something for themselves. Not a typical housewife.

Shourya and Niyati go to London

Anuj Saxena's serial Kulvaddhu may have gone off air last week but its' lead actors Shourya (Sachin Sharma) and Niyati (Daljeet Kaur) won't be sitting idle. The two are off to London to attend Asian Lifestyle 2007. Sony had officially invited the actors for the event which will take place from the 30 March till 1 April.

Sachin says, "Sony is sending us over there and we'll be the chief guests. It will be like a get together for all the NRIs in London and there will be lots of surprises for my audiences. There will be fashion shows, food festivals and music concerts as well. I'm especially looking forward to the music concerts. I like any kind of music which I can dance to. I like Bollywood as well as classical. I also love the Sufi music by Begum Abida. Parveen is my favourite singer and A.R. Rehman is my all time favourite composer."

Sachin has also just completed shooting for his film Mummyji. The actor says of the role, "I'm playing a character called Arjun who shares great chemistry with his mom. He understands her perfectly and even though he teases her, he is very loyal to her. The film will release in the middle of this year"

Apart from Kulvaddhu, Sachin's another serial Sindoor Tere Naam Ka is also going off air soon. However the actor has some offers and says he is "looking seriously into some scripts. Let's see what happen."

Daljeet also shares Sachin's excitement about the trip saying: "This is the first time I'll be attending any official function for Sony. I'm not going there to perform. I'm going there with Sachin and I don't have any idea who else is coming. We'll be chief guests at the show and I'm so excited!

I'm a Punjabi and a big foodie so I'll enjoy the food fest there. Further I'm model so I'll also enjoy the fashion shows. Then I'm also crazy for music, I liked every kind, so I'll be enjoying myself with the music as well! Looks like I'm going to enjoy everything!"

The actress will be leaving India on the 28th of March and plans on taking things easy for some time:
"I'm taking complete rest and sleep which I didn't get during the shooting of Kulvaddhu. Offers have been coming from various production houses but I haven't signed any of them as yet."

The Asian Lifestyle Festival will feature four shows everyday. Lara Dutta, Fardeen Khan, Kailash Kher and Usha Uthap will be performing at the festival.

The allergies stars suffer from

Allergy: its one word which everyone is familiar with. From eggs to fish, from dairy to Chinese food - the list is endless. Even our glamorous stars have cause to break out into hives sometimes. There they share with us what makes their skin crawl… Literally.

Rucha Gujrati:
I am very allergic to perfumes and if the smell is very strong, my head starts paining. I am also allergic to dust, pollution and sweat. I try to keep myself cool so that I can avoid sweating, because excess sweat leads to rashes on my skin.

Kashmeera Shah:
I am only allergic to liars! I just can't stand anybody who is lying. I get very angry if anyone is dishonest with me because whatever the consequence I always speak truth. Luckily, I am not allergic to anything else.

Daljeet Kaur:
I am asthmatic and hence I can't bear dust and pollution. Even the smells of certain flowers irritate me. I can't take the smell of Sunflower but thankful I'm not allergic to roses. I avoid Combiflam, after taking it I get rashes all over my body.

Divyanka Tripathi:
I am allergic to dust, pollen grains and the marigold flower. Whenever a marigold flower is around me my eyes swell up. I've had this condition since my childhood. Another thing is that I start sneezing badly whenever the temperature changes.

Mona Singh:
I am allergic to antibiotics so I can't take heavy doses of it. Other than that my body tends to develop rashes when I wear certain clothes. I have to I have to avoid warm clothes even in cooler places because I feel suffocated and break out into these rashes.

Dolly Sohi:
I avoid eating Chane ki dal. Whenever I eat it I get boils and pimples on my face. Also I cannot wear net dresses because my skin gets irritated and develops rashes. Hence I avoid both of these things.

Mona Wasu:
I am allergic only to a tablet called Dispirin, and nothing else. I eat everything normally and can wear everything.

Sachin Sharma is being called a 'jinxed' star as almost all his serials have shut abruptly. Daljeet Kaur is branded a 'poor' actress, thanks to Kulvaddhu. Amit Sadh and newcommer Amrapalli Gupta (who now appears in Teen Bahuraaniyan) would have been talked about similarly. Says Amrapalli, "I was offered the role but strangely a confirmation never reached me. That's how I missed it." Amit Sadh's case is a little different. Just after shooting for the pilot episode, an offer for Bigg Boss came his way which he accepted immediately. Thank god for that!
