Radhika wailed in grief...things were really bad at the Trivedi residence. Lallan tried to maintain a brave face but his wives were inconsolable...

Everyone was affected...Ashutosh's life changed too...

The next few months radically altered Ashu's life...with Abhishek gone, Lallan found increasing solace in Kanishk...Whatever big political dreams Lallan had seen for Abhishek were now transferred to little Kanishk...He wouldn't let his dynasty die.

Kanishk was just 2 years old...too young to be anointed as Lallan's successor...Lallan had a few nephews but none of them could be trusted...they were a treacherous lot and would usurp power at the slightest chance...Lallan now wanted a stop gap successor...someone who could keep the seat warm for Kanishk in event of something untoward happening to him..but remain faithful to him...it was difficult to find such a person in the snake pit called politics. In the end, he zeroed in on one person whom he could trust unconditionally...someone who loved Kanishk as much as he did- Radhika!

Yes, Radhika would be his successor ! he would groom her.

he wouldn't be the first politician to project his daughter as his successor...many have done that before...after all when a woman-Mayawati could become the CM of the state then why can't Radhika enter politics? of course she would need training, he would give her. The girl had grown more confident after her marriage...all she needed was some re-orientation...moreover, it was not as if she would be needed for long..she would just be a spare...ready to step in only in case he dies before Kanishk grows up...she can quit politics once Kanishk is ready to don the mantle.

The idea of Radhika entering politics amused Ashutosh to no end. He thought that his sasur has gone crazy after his son's death and his unstable mind is coming up with such crazy ideas. Radhika! of all people Radhika...that idea was laughable...Radhika wouldn't survive for even one day in the rough and tumble of politics...In fact his mom in law Sumitra appeared to be a better option.

Only gutsy women survive in politics...Radhika wasn't cut out for it...

Ashutosh, however, kept his opinions to himself...he didn't want to hurt his father in law...If Radhika's entry into politics gave him peace, then so be it...he will see the result for himself and end the madness. Plus, Radhika was also keen on supporting her father in managing his business, though she was hesitant about entering politics... Ashu's mind felt guilty that Radhika never got a chance to complete her graduation..so, he thought that if helping her dad with his business gave her some feeling of accomplishment, then she should go ahead and do that.

Business and politics can seldom be separated...and in U.P of all place..never.

Radhika learnt that soon enough...slowly but surely Lallan transformed his daughter...by the end of third year Radhika became her father's shadow. She would accompany him to important meetings, discuss strategies with him...in short she was able to undo the influence of her conservative upbringing and the politics in her blood reared its head. Though she dressed even more modestly and adhered to conservative family values, she became more outspoken in public.

Ashutosh was taken aback by the sea change in his wife...agreed, he wanted his wife to feel accomplished..but this transformation was more than what he had bargained for...he wanted his wife to be a businesswoman and not a politico...it was too late, the genie was out of the bottle now. Every morning one person or the other would arrive at their doorstep wanting to meet Radhika Didi...Radhika would be away from home for days together attending one political meeting after another...life as he used to know it ceased to exist.

one night-

Ashutosh was sitting in the hall watching television...Kanishk was fast asleep. Radhika entered the house and smiled at her hubby... She was dressed in a yellow cotton saree..her staple attire nowadays...she looked every bit an aspiring politician, even her head was covered with her pallu...something that she had forgotten to take off even after entering the house.

"Apka khana ho gaya?"

"Haan...aur tumhara?"

"Ji haan...baba ke saath maine bhi kha liya"

"Din kaisa raha tumhara"

"waise jaise roz hotha hai...chaliye...main jaldi se naha leti hoon...begum bazaar ka daura kiya aaj...uff wahan kitni gandagi thi...patha nahi votes ke liye aur kya kya karna padega"

Ashutosh was reclining on the bed when Radhika emerged from the bathroom

She looked divine in her white night gown...and many days had passed since they had gotten intimate.

Ashu held her hand and made her sit besides him... he nuzzled her neck..

Radhika was too tired to react appropriately..yet Ashu persisted

"Radhu don't you think that it is time that we bring Kanishk's sister in this world? he is five already"

Radhika laughed and touched the cleft on Ashu's chin and said "Doctor saab..agle saal election hai...kahin yeh na ho ki Kanishk ke behen ke chakkar mein uske nana elections haar jaye"

Ashutosh felt as if Radhika had poured cold water over him...he felt rebuffed...his ego started hurting. He muttered something inane things about how things were at the hospital and went to sleep...but sleep eluded him.

His thoughts went to Chandrabhan Singh...Lallan's aide after Pandey's death - crafty and obsequious at the same time. He followed Lallan like a shadow and used to contact Radhika all the time. Radhikaji yeh..Radhikaji woh... he didn't even suffix the customary did' after her name...not that she was old enough to be his elder sister...Chandrabhan was 47, but then even older men used to call Radhika didi'...so what does that mean...has he set his sights on Radhika...was that why he was so averse to addressing her as didi'?

Chandrabhan Singh was a fairly good looking man with a glib tongue. He hailed from Faizabad and had done his masters in political science from Avadh university. He used to be a school teacher before he quit his job to join politics, after worming his way into Lallan's main circle. This man plans meticulously( thought Ashutosh)...when he plans Lallan's campaigns so well then he must have planned his own political career wisely too...he was ambitious but managed to hide it really well (a few years of people management at KGH gave Ashu sufficient skills to spot such traits)...what route does Chandrabhan plan to take for his personal growth...does that route go through Radhika? Surely Lallan wouldn't allow that to happen...but such things happen clandestinely...and Radhika was no more the innocent woman she once was...so has she fallen for him? what really took place during Radhika's visits to her father's constituency or his factories?

Then, suddenly he became ashamed of himself for thinking so cheaply about his wife...surely Radhika wasn't like 'HER'...she would never cheat him...no..no..not his Radhika.

Nice update Vidishaji..story is going in a very fast farward pace..Now Radhika is in politics and very busy with her work. .Ashutosh thinking "Radhika wasn't like her"...Who is "her"...Nidhi?...in the past Nidhi cheated Ashu??? Now iam eager to know how Nidhi would reenter in Ashu's life.
