She was not sure about Ashu mallu relations. She had some feelings for him that's why she got upset when she saw that hug.

I think Mallika liked to dress up neat and clean and that put her away from Ashu. What say?😉😆

What a tangled web , I think earlier Nidhi was in awe of him , till the shenshah episodes, when he returns her earrings , the way she ponders over them , and the feeling that he noticed them ,changes something in her , she realises that it matters what he thinks , really realising that she has fallen for him is in the tea stall ,when she sees a softer side of him ,

As rightly pointed out by aarti1303, Nidhi started feeling for Ashu after Shahanshah's injection incident when hardstone, Dr. Ashutosh bestowed her with earrings.

I think Nidhi falling in love happened through various stages /incidences. She knew that Ashutosh was unmarried since Priyanka's wedding. Ashutosh developed affection for her when she confesses that she is not interested in medical profession and he should fire her and points out that his car doesn't have red coloured cross. I feel he admires her merit/ rank in the MBBS exams and her honesty and observation . When Nidhi told him about her admiration for orphan Shehenshah who has great dreams about forming cricket league, he developes a soft spot for her. When she wishes to leave KGH, he tries to pursue her to stay by saying that he was sad that he was loosing such a good doctor. He feels sad/bad that she had decided to leave. This is the cleart incidence when he had fallen in love with her but he had not realised it yet. Thus here also it is process of falling in love. It did not happen in one single incidence but during series of incidences.
