- On the occasion of National Doctor's Day, here's a look at some of popular on screen Doctors that actors have played on big screen and small screen.
While 'Anand' is remembered for Rajesh Khanna's performance, Amitabh Bachchan's performance as Dr Bhaskar is also revered. The actor played a silent dedicated doctor who befriends a terminally ill patient played by Khanna and how his life changes forever after Anand starts living with him. - Annu Kapoor showed his acting talent as he played fertility expert Dr. Baldev Chaddha in the Shoojit Sircar's 'Vicky Donor'. The hilarious story of a sperm donor had Kapoor playing a typical Punjabi doctor to perfection.
- While most people remember and laud Nutan and Ashok Kumar's performance in Bimal Roy's 'Bandini', there was also a young Dharmendra who played Deven a jail doctor who silently loves the lead protagonist Sujata (Nutan) and yearns to marry her.
- Kareena Kapoor has played a doctor's character in '3 Idiots' as well as 'Kyun Ki'. The actress played a psychiatrist in Priyadarshan's 'Kyu Ki' who falls in love with her patient eventually while in Rajkumar Hirani's '3 Idiots' she played a cute medical student in love with Aamir Khan.
- He may have played a fake doctor in 'Munnabhai MBBS' but we surely would love to have a fun doctor like Murali Prasad Sharma in our lives. Sanjay Dutt played the lovable gangster to perfection in the film which proved to be a turning point in his career. Also, the film gave us a talented actor like Boman Irani who played the grumpy but funny dean of a medical college.
- A hard core medical drama by Tapan Sinha 'Ek Doctor Ki Maut' had Pankaj Kapur playing Dr Roy who doesn't get recognition for a vaccine that he discovers for the cure of leprosy. The film fetched both the director as well as the actor a National Award.
- Sonali Bendre may have played a cameo role in Nikhil Advani's 'Kal Ho Na Ho' but her character as SRK's doctor friend was a pivotal one for the story. Bendre also played a doctor in 'Hum Saath Saath Hai'.

- Kritika Kamra played Dr Nidhi Verma in love with a much older colleague in the hospital she works in in the show 'Kuch Toh Log Kahenge' which was a remake of Pakistan's popular show 'Dhoop Kinare'.
- Rani Mukerji's portrayal of a young doctor in love with a rich brat in Shaad Ali's 'Saathiya' struck a chord with the viewers for its simplistic approach.
