Tomo for sure...spent the entire day in Dussehra festivities. Returned from Mom's house an hour ago

"Go to that guy...over there ...the one with the calculator ..and make a fake love confession..try and be creative...now go girl." ordered Armaan.

"His name is Kotreshi "added Mallika...we call him by some other name but his real name is Kotreshi

Armaan and Mallika looked at Ashu, who was calculating the profit he had made by trading shares and was oblivious to what was happening in the room.

Asmitha gave an angry look at Mallika and Armaan...this became the cause of further laughs...they knew very well that Asmita had a huge crush on Ashu but was scared of confessing her love for him...this was one of their ploys to make her jealous and confess her love for him.

Nidhi hesitated but Mallika left her with no choice...she was dying to see Ashu's reaction. She knew him too well to miss such an opportunity.

Nidhi walked hesitantly and blurted out 'Mr.Kotreshi, I love you'.

Ashutosh was startled and his calculator slipped from his hand...he was at a loss as to what was happening. The peals of laughter indicated that it was a ragging prank. He walked upto Armaan who was almost dying of laughter and asked what was happening. Armaan wasn't in a position to answer, in fact the only senior who wasn't laughing was Asmita. She approached Ashu and told Ashu everything...their entire batch screamed a teasing"oooh".

Ashu shook his head at Mallika in disapproval but the fact was that he was amused and was fighting hard to keep a straight face. His resistance broke down in a few seconds and he joined others "Mallika kuch toh standard maintain karti, I know that Ashutosh isn't a modern-sounding name but why 'Kotreshi' why why?"

"I...ha ha...saw a comedy movie in which the lead had that name"...

Asmita was clearly not amused and gave everyone a hostile look.

Nidhi went back to her seat , she was thoroughly embarrassed. The rest of the day went on well and as per the unofficial arrangements the seniors had made with the lecturers, all formal ragging ended today- the college didn't want to be in the news for all the wrong reasons and moreover the anti-ragging squad was very strict in enforcing rules. What happened today was a mere fulfillment of tradition...During its heydays, ragging used to border on being inhumane.

A few months passed and normalcy was restored. Ashu was busy acquiring knowledge and Asmitha was busy chasing him...Mallu and Armaan were never short of entertainment this way.
Nidhi and Ranju became close friends, this fact did irritate Anji. Finding her best friend talking to her cousin about college was strange...Anji hated engineering ...the workshop was the part she detested the most. Hacksaw blades, files, soldering and welding weren't the stuff frail girls like her were supposed to enjoy.

"Why do I have to cut sheet metal in the first sem??? I am an electronics student...then why on earth should I learn all this???

She recalled how Nidhi and Ranju sympathised with her when she returned home with an arc-eye. Her dad didn't soften...he had made his decision and his wish was the rule in her house.

Armaan had by now befriended a good number of freshers- mostly girls( much to the anger of his gf Manasi). Nidhi and Ranju were among those .

An hour of gossiping with Armaan gave them all the 'gyan' they needed about the seniors and academics.
Now they knew who were the lecturers one must be careful around, which subjects were tough...etc...and a little too much about Armaan and his loved ones. Ashu was his schoolmate and Mallika was Ashu's family friend...and they were a famous trio. Ashu was a topper throughout his student life...and he was a fun loving person though he accorded greater priority to academic achievement over fun things.

Asmitha was the beauty queen of the college and had won the title of Miss Ethnic last year. Shivani and Shraddha were great spoil-sports and never missed an opportunity to squeal.

Her friendship with Armaan brought Nidhi into contact with Ashu...and everytime she saw him, a strange sensation passed through her...she couldn't help but admire his good looks...and his intelligence.

Ranju was quick to sense that Nidhi had a crush on Ashu and this information was duly conveyed to Anji. They spared no opportunity to tease her and each teasing session further strengthened her feelings towards Ashu.
Nidhi's courage failed every time she came in front of Ashu, and all the guts she used brag about would evaporate in seconds. She knew pretty well that there were many contenders for Ashu's heart..and Asmitha guarded him like a tigress..."Why should she guard him? What right does she have over him? Ashu is clearly not interested in her...can't she see it?" thought Nidhi.
