Okay, so we know that the RanJi baby track is coming up. More interestingly, Anji will be unwilling to have a baby. I don't know if this is a coincidence but the men on this show want babies and the women do not, at least temporarily! Ashu wants a kid right away because he is not getting younger and Ranga wants one probably because his parents want one. Whatever their reasons, the fact is the men here are pro-baby.

This leads me to wonder if this is a reflection of today's reality. Is it true that today's men are more inclined to family and kids while the women are not so keen? Is the brooding instinct stronger in men than in women?

I think it varies from couple to couple. But in most cases when people get married in normal age(I mean couple like Ranji) like to keep at least 1 yr for themselves to enjoy the togetherness before planning for the child. My POV.

Yes Sujatha ji , I think this brooding instinct of having a child is more stronger in men than womens these day's .
But I also think like Koyel that newly married couple like to wait for atleast one year .
The reason for this instinct could be that Womens today are much devoted to there Career . And the couples don't get much time for each other . It's nature of Mens that they want there partner to pamper and care for them like a child. And due to there job they miss this affection as both get tired by the end of day.
They think Child will bring them more close , one could be there possesive nature , they don't want there Wifes to mingle with other men , if baby comes chances are less.
There are lots of reasons , differ from person to person.

well ..this is a reflective of the changing times ...
in 70s and 80s movies ..men and boyfriends were always wary of the baby .. and women wanted babies .. even in 90s serials ,it was the same .. but now with women being more independent ..financially ... they are ready to keep baby plans on a hold .. and now men want this coz women arent taking the first step towards this...
also in 80s and 90s ,in movie industry ,marriage ..esp for heroines ...was a big no no ...but now marriage and baby has become almost a style statement !

Thank you Sarika...that is interesting...so you feel that women are more career oriented today and so would prefer to postpone motherhood...whereas men look at babies as a means to strengthen their marital bonding!

Agrree, Deepa...there was a time when men were commitment and baby phobic...women were more insecure in their relationships...it does appear that the tide is turning now...

Maybe it is also to do with the concept of biological clock...with the advancement in medical science, a woman's reproductive span is not as limtied as it used to be...maybe this is also reason why women feel they can afford to postpone childbearing for longer...delayed marriage and babies has indeed become a style statement...we have enough female celebrities who are experiencing motherhood for the first time in their late 30s or early 40s...

I tend to agree somewhat, Sarika...girls today do seem to want to put marriage and babies on hold for the sake of their careers...even if they are not career-oriented, they seem to want to postpone motherhood because they want to enjoy life without any encumberances for a while...

But I wonder if age alone is a factor...because, a good friend of mine, who is now touching forty, had her child only five years ago...although she got married almost ten years ago...her reason was she was not sure if the marriage would last...it was an arranged marriage and she wanted to be sure they were compatible as a couple before they brought a child into the equation...however, when they decided to try for a child after three years of marriage, there were fertility issues...it took another two years of treatment before they finally had a kid,...
