Actually Sonakshi always knew his priority was his mother, most of all. She was okay with that. He had told her quite early in their relationship, 'second most important woman in my life'. She was very secure and never bothered about changing that. She told Ishwari after their breakup also "Aap unke life mein sabse zyaada important ho, aapse zyaada pyaar kisise karte bhi nahi, khud se bhi nahi".
I think what really hurt her was that his actions somehow showed her that she wasn't important AT ALL. She never competed to be primary in Dev's life, but resented being treated as a disposable toy, and she was totally right.
Interestingly, she was his life.. I don't think either of them realized that. They kept saying Maa was the ultimate, but his actions showed that wasn't it,, because he couldn't really bear to be away from Sona, he was never himself when separated from her.
By Priority, I didn't mean topmost priority. That was his mother & Sonakshi had no problem with that. In fact, if I understood her correctly, that was the very reason why she fell for him. His devotion towards his family, especially his mother, with little to no worries about himself. She saw him as this perfect guy who was a great son, a great brother....who didn't hesitate to sacrifice his part of the happiness for his mother or sisters.
But when he told her she was the 2nd most important woman of his life, she expected him to make her his 2nd most priority too. But he didn't do that. If you see carefully, Ishwari never outrightly asked Dev to cut off ties with Sonakshi. Yes, she was not happy with their relationship but there was a thousand other ways to reason with her, understand her & make her understand. But Dev didn't even try that. He readily gave up on their relationship. When Ishwari downed all those pills, she was not trying to commit suicide or force Dev's hand. That was his own interpretation. Ishwari was actually trying to fall sleep so that she doesn't have to answer Dev about Sonakshi & not feel guilty of not being happy. It was completely Dev's decision to break up with her. He made her feel like she didn't have any place at all in his priority list. He totally sacrificed her for his mother. If she was even a tiny bit important to him, he would have at least tried to find a way. Not give up like she didn't matter at all.
Even after marriage he never placed her high on his priority list. Apart from his mother, his sisters, his Mami, Vicky.... literally everyone was above Sonakshi in his priority list. Kichu Bhaia was not demanding, otherwise he would have placed him higher than her too.

Bold 1: Yes. Agreed. Once he realized his mother wasn't happy about the relationship, he directly broke up with her. That was entirely on him. He did not stand up for Sona or fight for her.
Bold 2: Agreed. Ishwari wasn't trying to commit suicide. But when that narrative was told, she went with it and never corrected it. She never told anyone that it was a mistake and she wasn't trying to commit suicide. She was manipulative enough to let Dev stew in his guilt.

Well.... I believe he did redeem himself to quite an extent towards the end of the first season. In season 2 he had totally became an ideal husband & knew well how to support his wife & encourage her in her ambitions. Honestly, to me,that's where Dev's character arc reached & I would like to believe it stayed there.
I refuse to believe that this season 3 Dev is that same Dev. The whole season 3 doesn't make any sense to me & after it ends, I am going to pretend it never existed.😆

Because she was relieved that the "2nd most important woman" of his life was gone & she was back to being the only important woman of his life😆 She didn't set out to achieve this, but she was pleased none the less.
Also, Ishwari was kind of leaving in denial. Dev told her that he & Sonakshi broke up because they were not compatible & she totally lapped it up. When Neha tried to show her the actual scenario, she vehemently protested. She liked to believe she had no hand in it & Dev could so readily break it off because Sonakshi was not all that important to him. She was living in complete denial & believed into her own lies. That has always been the problem with her. She thought she knew her son the best while in reality she didn't understand him at all.

This! Me too! I think the story had reached the point where Dev cherished Sona for who she was, and he was very frank and open about his feelings for her. He was supportive of her in all ways and they were thriving as a couple and a family. That's it.
This season 3 Dev hasn't made any sense yet to me!

Yes. She saw he was disturbed, upset and not doing well at all, but convinced herself it was his work! If she hadn't seen him crying for Sona, she would have made him live like this for the rest of his life until he finally broke fully. Quite the mother!

I think in the first half of the show, Ishwari was meant to be an example of how a mother should not be. And Asha an example of how a mother should be.
I don't know if the makers really planned it that way, but I felt Bose family was presented as the ideal family whereas Dixit family was meant to be a dysfunctional one. And the mothers from both the houses were meant to be so opposite of each other to establish that stark contrast. Even Dadi's support towards Asha was highlighted only to point out how atrocious a mother in law Ishwari was.
I sincerely don't understand how he thinks this. She's been proven wrong multiple times in front of him. He has seen and acknowledged how she ruined his marriage entirely on purpose. He has seen her misjudge and insult his wife, he has seen her rigid, backward opinions, her unnecessary interference, her manipulation... How is he still so blind to her flaws?
I just realised how lucky Asha was to have a supportive husband like Bijoy & a loving, caring mother in law like Dadi.
Girls! Forget Dev. Bijoy is the real deal😆
